(Saint Claire Shores, Michigan, United States) – The Greek Festival at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Saint Claire, Michigan will take place from August 18, 2016 to August 21, 2016 at the grounds of the church on Marter Road. This festival is a great way for people of the community to come together in order to celebrate all things Greek. Festival guests can participate in a variety of activities including eating Greek food, listening to Greek music, and dancing traditional dances. There is also a Greek marketplace where people can buy Greek-related goods and also some activities for the kids.
Most people who attend the festival, however, will be the most interested in the food offerings! Festival volunteers have been going through various stages of prep for the foods from several months in advance and their hard work is appreciated by those who eat at the festival! Traditional Greek foods will be served, such as lamb shank, souvlaki, and spinach pie are on the menu. It is also possible to eat traditional Greek desserts such as baklava and koulourakia. You can either get your meal to-go or enjoy it at the festival.
Besides eating Greek food, there is plenty more that you can do at the festival! There are dancing demonstrations and other forms of entertainment to enjoy that are put on by the Hellenic Society of the Performing Arts, Jr. Hellenic Society of the Performing Arts, Omega Dancers, Alpha Dancers and the children who attend Greek School. There are also activities for the kids, such as a petting zoo, rides for the kids, and games, and also a raffle with giveaways such as $1000 cash and two airline tickets to anywhere in the United States. There are also church tours available where people will be able to view the inside of the church and ask any questions they may have about the church as well as the Orthodox Christian faith in general.
