(Schererville, Indiana, United States) – Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Schererville, Indiana will take place this weekend, ending Sunday, July 17, 2016. For members of the local community, including the Greek community, this festival is a time to get together and enjoy the Greek culture! Festival guests will enjoy a variety of Greek related activities, such as eating delicious Greek food, listening to Greek music, enjoying traditional Greek dancing and there will even be activities for the kids! There will also be a live Greek band each day of the festival, demonstrations by local Greek dance troupes, a beer garden, and even fireworks at dusk on Sunday night! There will also be a raffle.
Although this is a great community event that is filled with plenty of Greek-related activities, one of the clear highlights is the food. Festival guests are able to enjoy a variety of sweet and savory Greek specialties and they can either eat their food at the festival or get it to-go in order to enjoy it at home. Of course, guests are more than welcome to both eat at the festival and take more food home for later! Specialty foods include Greek pastries like loukoumades and baklava, as well as popular Greek foods like souvlaki, gyros, and dolmades. There will also be Greek beer and wine served. There is also a drive-thru so that people can grab their food “on the go”.
The festival has been open since Thursday, July 14 and will be closing on Sunday, July 17, 2016. Festival hours on both Saturday and Sunday are from 12 PM to 10 PM. Admission to this festival is free and all proceeds of the festival will benefit the Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Schererville. This is the annual festival’s 37th year and each year, it gets even more popular! Church tours are also available.
