Greek-Americans Make Forbes’ List of the Wealthiest People in the World

(United States) – Forbes has just released the Forbes 2017 Billionaires List and a total of thirteen Greek-Americans have made the cut. Each of these individuals were either born in Greece and then moved to the United States, or their parents or grandparents moved to the United States after leaving Greece. Here’s a look at who these wealthy Greek-Americans are:

Jim Davis

Jim Davis, the owner of New Balance, was born in Massachusetts but he is the son of Greek immigrants. He is considered to be the wealthiest Greek-American in the world with a fortune estimated at $5 billion. New Balance manufactures an estimated four million pairs of shoes in the United States annually. He is ranked #315 in the world amongst billionaires.

John Catsimatidis

John Catsimatidis, is an American New York businessman. His business ventures include owning a supermarket chain and also an oil refinery. He is ranked #581 amongst the world’s billionaires and has a fortune estimated at $3.3 billion.

Tom and Alec Gores

Tom Gores and John Catsmatidis are tied for spot #581 amongst billionaires. Although Gores was born in Israel, his father is of Greek-descent. He grew up in Detroit, Michigan and he and his brother, Alec (also on the list at #973 with a fortune of $2.1 billion) began working early on by helping at their father’s grocery store. Tom and Alec are both Equity Investors. Tom is also one of the owners of the Detroit Pistons.

John Paul DeJoria

John Paul DeJoria is an American with both Greek and Italian Descent. He founded Paul Mitchell Systems and owns the Patron tequila brand. He is listed at #630 with a net worth of $3 billion.

Philip Niarchos

Philip Niarchos comes from a wealthy family. His father is the late Stavros Niarchos, who was one of the wealthiest shipping magnates in the world. Philip is listed at #815 and is estimated to be worth $2.5 billion.

Dean Metropoulos, former owner of hostess who is listed at #867 with a net worth of $2.5 billion, Alexander Spanos, who is listed at #867 with a net worth of $2.4 billion, George Argyros, who is listed at #939 with a net worth of $2.2 billion, Aristotelis Mistakidis, who is listed at #973 with a net worth of $2.2 billion, Peter Peterson, who is listed at #973 with a net worth of $2.1 billion, Maritsa Lazari, who is listed at #1030 and has a net worth of $1.94 billion, and Spiro Latsis, who is listed at #1098 and has a net worth of $1.99 billion.
