(Merrillville, Indiana, United States) – The Greek Festival at Saints Constantine and Helen Cathedral in Merrillville, Indiana started today July 8, 2016 and ends tomorrow on Saturday, July 9, 2016. Festival hours on Friday, July 8th are 5 PM to 11 PM. On Saturday, July 9, the festival will go from 12 PM to 11 PM.
This festival gives members of the community a chance to experience the Greek culture by eating some delicious food, listening to music, experiencing the traditional Greek folk dancing, shopping at the marketplace, and much more. There will also be church tours taking place once a day at 7 PM.
For festival guests, however, the main draw is eating the delicious Greek food. Festival volunteers begin making preparations for these meals months in advance and the food is all handmade so that it tastes just like homemade Greek cooking. Enjoy traditional dishes such as souvlaki, gyros, lamb, pastitsio and more. Finish off your meal with a Greek pastry, such as baklava or koulourakia. You can even wash your meal down with beer, wine, or Greek coffee! There is also a kid’s menu.
All proceeds will benefit the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. They said on their website on the festival program, “The Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Merrillville, Indiana welcome you and thank you for attending our annual Grecian Festival. We hope this program will help you enjoy all that we have to offer.” They went on to list all the fun activities that guests will be to participate in when attending the festival.
The festival will take place on the grounds of the Saints Constantine and Helen Orthodox Church. Parking and admission are both free. All proceeds from the festival will benefit the church and help the parish meet its daily expenses. This is a great event for the whole family!
