President Elect Trump Appoints Greek American Reince Priebus as Chief of Staff

(United States) – President Elect Donald Trump is going to appoint Reince Priebus as the White House Chief of Staff. His father is of German descent but his mother, Dimitra, is of Greek descent and is also a Greek Orthodox Christian. Dimitra was born in Sudan but her parents were from the Greek island of Lesvos.

Mr. Priebus is quick to point out that he wasn’t raised in a privileged household. In fact, he had a very humble upbringing. He told the publication, Hellenext, that, “I don’t come from a family like that. My dad’s an electrician; my mom was born in Sudan. Half my family lived in Greece. I think what we believe is that everybody should have an opportunity to make good money, and we want people to do well.” He has also said that, “I am proud to be Greek, it is a blessing from God to be Greek.”

His ties to the Greek culture, including the Greek Orthodox religion, are very strong. He publicly congratulated the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on the 25th Anniversary of becoming the Ecumenical Patriarch. He is also a member of the Archons of the Order of Saint Andrew, which is an honorary position where members of the laity are appointed by the Ecumenical Patriarch. According to the official website of the Archons of the Order of Saint Andrew, “An Archon is an honoree by His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew for his outstanding service to the Church, and a well-known distinguished, and well-respected leader of the Orthodox Christian community.”

In 2011, Reince was appointed as the Chairman of the Republican National Committee. Prior to that, he was a general counsel member to the Republican National Committee, and he stepped down in late 2010 to announce his candidacy as chairman. He was a strong supporter of President Elect Donald Trump throughout the campaign, and the transition team felt as if he was a perfect fit for the White House Chief of Staff.
