The Apollo Restaurant in Sydney Australia Received a Monocle Award

(Sydney, Australia) – The Apollo Restaurant, which is located in Sydney, Australia, has received a Monocle Award. This award is given to restaurants throughout the world that have all shown to be at the top of their craft. The Apollo is ranked number seven amongst the other recipients.

The restaurant concept was originally conceived in 2011 when two Greek-Australian friends, Jonathan Bartlemess and Sam Christie,  decided to enter into a partnership that would eventually make this dream a reality. Their goal has always been to share their heritage while also living out their dream of opening a successful restaurant. The friends hired George Livissianis, an accomplished architect, to design the space.

Bartlemess, who is the restaurant’s chef, is currently considered one of the best chefs in the world, according to Monocle. The award pairs him and his restaurant on the same level as other noted restaurant recipients, such as The River Cafe in London, England and Kronenhalle, which is in Zurich, Switzerland.

According to The Ap0llo’s website, “Barlemess has, at the age of 33, established himself as one of Australia’s most exciting chefs. He steered Manly Pavilion Restaurant to win best new restaurant in the 2011 Sydney Morning Herald good food guide awards as well as a hard-to-come-by chef’s hat.” The website goes on to site his mentors, such as Stefano Manfredi and Janni Kyritsis, who both specialize in Mediterranean food. Menu items include traditional Greek foods such as taramosalata, Greek village salad, and oven-baked lamb. There are also some unique dishes on this menu, as well, that display the chef’s creativity.

When talking about the award, Bartlemess said, “You don’t really think about awards and things, but the most satisfying thing is definitely when you’ve got heaps of customers and you’re in demand. Awards are great and being mentioned in Monocle is such a good thing for the staff and the team and is inspiring for us all, but as long as the customers are having a good time, that gives us energy.”
