(Australia) – The Wines of Greece tasting and masterclass event is scheduled to take place in multiple locations throughout Australia starting on June June 19, 2017 and ending on June 26, 2017. This event is in place to introduce Australians to around 80 Greek wines, most of which are new for this year. The goal is to not only bring awareness for the Greek wines but also for the regions where the wine is produced.
There will be both trade and consumer tastings as part of this event. Trade events will be happening on June 19th in Sydney, June 21st in Adelaide, and June 26th in Melbourne. Consumer tastings will take place in Melbourne on June 24th and in Adelaide on June 21st. The President of Wines of Greece, Vangelis Argyris, has said that he has wanted to return to Australia since the last events were such a success. This is the third time the event has come to Australia.
Concerning the event, Vangelis Argyris has said, “There is unprecedented demand for Greek wines with a 30 per cent increase in sales in Australia over the last two years. Our native grape varieties are leading this demand and we’re hoping to bring some new varieties in June that haven’t been widely seen in Australia before. We are thrilled Australia has fell in love with Greek wines and so excited for this third tour in as many year.”
Greece is one of the oldest wine regions in the world. Because the climate is fairly consistent, the grape harvest is predictable, which means the wines are consistent as well. Greece has been gaining momentum in recent years as part of the international wine market. Events such as these are designed to bring even more awareness to these wines and to give people a chance to sample some the best that the country has to offer.
