As you have probably heard, the Park ave. area will be named Hellenic Village (or something similar). I personaly think this should have happened years ago and that this is a ploy to get the mayor re-elected.
Are there that many Ελληνες in Montreal to get this mayor re-elected? Let's hope that people vote independent of any political ploy and that the re-naming happens regardless.
GreekSteve, there are around 100 000 Greeks in Montreal. The re-naming will happen this summer....that's the latest news I have. Even with the re-naming, the Greeks should still not vote for the current mayor again because "Greektown" should have happened years ago. Where was the mayor then ?? He was ignoring us. Hopefully the Greeks here will use their brain and not vote for him ever again.
Ομορφουλα, I wish we could implement some sort of Mayor exchange program. Have you heard of NYC's Mayor Bloomberg (aka: Doomberg). He wants to implement a congestion pricing plan to ease the traffic in NYC. "Sounds good" some might say, but the traffic will not get better because of this. It will weed out the lower and middle classes though. There will always be wealthy people willing to pay extra tolls. This is not right. In other parts of the world they limit entry into cities based on license numbers. This seems fair because access is alternated between odd and even numbers. Sorry to rant but can your Mayor be blamed for anything really bad?
Yes I've heard of Bloomberg...some people call him Doucheberg. I've also been to NY and the traffic is insane. I agree that paying more tolls will not help. They were thinking of bringing back tolls in Montreal too when crossing different bridges but that didn't jive with the public here.
