What would happen if the Greek language simplified?

Lately, there's been discussion of simplifying the Modern Greek language including the elimination of the various letter combinations that form the sound of "i". Should we keep using them or not? Should we make the language easier to learn for foreigners or expect them to transliterate? What could the long-term effects be? Anyone, anyone, anyone...

Who started this discussion? The language has already been simplified too much to begin with. Before anyone messes with Greek, perhaps they should take a look at the following vowel patterns in English that also appear to have identical pronunciations:
Through
Threw
Too
To
Blue
Gnu

Hello GreekSteve!

Nice subject for discussion. I red the initial post and the replies! Lately some leading Greek personalities like Mme DIamantopoulou and know a parliament member from Cyprus suggested to change our language in directions either to eliminate the language by having English as 1st language in Greece or by taking off some of the vowels and consunants making the language "easier to write and read". Well in Greece we say "Κούνια που τους κούναε". If we do that we will stop thinking. The language will lose its female substance and caracter and for or later it will die out like many other languages did. Developement for Greek languge is nto to compress it and its tools. Instead of recognizing Greek - Hellenic as a World language we greeks tend to destroy our language.

Now, Giannis gave me a thought of a paradox. Trava ten dora (Τράβα την δορά) is draw the door.

Dimitra's example is also very good. Think of Greek "ιστερία" to be hysteria in English. Do you know the result. I know that Greek will one day be a world (global) language again and then we will have same phenomenon as we have with the paradox of Macedonia. Slavonics today claim and they tell us that they are more Dorians than the Greeks.

Though very radical I am totally agaist that. Grewing up in a foreign country I know very well what it ment to write a word the old way and how easy it was for me to guess the word in the second language. I.e. 'υπέρ could give me the words in latinized form of super or/and hyper. Think of "ιπερ" how bad it looks like and how bad it is to compare with super and hyper. Being Pontian in origin I also know that names like Soumela was spellt Symela because the "Y" was pronounced like a long "U" (ΖΕΥΣ was pronanced ZEΟΥΣ" later the "ΕΥΣ" sounded and was turned το either as "-ΕΑΣ" or "-EΦΣ" as in the examples "Ορφέας" or "Ορφεύς". The Latins changed "Y" to "V" or "U".

I will also start a discussion in my own community PHILOXENIA on this subject, be sure that I will come back here.

English is a barbarian dialect of the ancient Helenic Language!

Thyra in Greek is door. Via German "Tür" thety got "door". Can it be so? Yes
But if it isn't so then what could it be?
Well when the Minoans came to (Κασσιτερίδες Νήσους) they met people living in stone age in tents and caves eith shins instead of doors in the front. The Minoans told their servants: Τράβα την δοράν (draw the skins) and simply the british replies draw the door. It could be so too.

To simplify Greek language is comfortible for the League (The Holy Conspirace). THe more Greeks loose their identity the easiar for them to control the world.

THIS IS OFFFICIAL
From a programme in Deutsche Welle 1974, by Nicos Bacoyannis Greek PAralment member who was murdered.

«The Greek people are anarchic and difficult to tame. For this reason we must strike deep into their cultural roots: Perhaps then we can force them to conform. I mean,of course, to strike at their language, their religion, their cultural and historical reserves, so that we can neutralize their ability to develop, to distinguish themselves, or to prevail; thereby removing them as an obstacle to our strategically vital plans in the Balkans, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East»
[Henry Kissinger, September 1974]

Kouli so simple it is. Can you do this in any other language!

WHO AM I ?
The Pythagorean arithmosophy gives for Georgios Paraskevoypoulos:

Hey Dean!

I met a Guy named Dimitris Lekkas 20 years back in seminary about theatrology. He teached us music. THere for first time I realised how much Pythogoras The Great master ment to Greek Language, culture, trafition, past, present and future.

The Pythagorean Arithmososphy Gives:

5+30+30 +8+50+30+70+3+70+200+5+200+300+10+50
ΑΠΟΛΛΩΝ (Apollo)=1061 >> God of PHAOS= PYRINOS LOGOS (Light=knowledge)
1+80+70+30+30+800+50
ΙΑΣΩΝ (Jason [means Healer [JESUS])=1061
10+1+200+800+50
ΑΡΙΘΜΟΣΟΦΙΑΝ (Numeral Wisdom, Arithmosophy)=1061
1+100+10+9+40+70+200+70+500+10+1+50
Ο ΦΥΛΑΞ (The Guard)=1061
70+500+400+30+1+60
ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΟΣ ΔΙΑΛΟΓΙΣΜΟΣ (Hellenic Dialogism [Meditation])=1061
5+30+30+8+50+10+20+70+200+4+10+1+30+70+3+10+200+40+70+200

As you understand Hellenic Logos = Apollo (God of Enlightment)=Jason, The Healer (a version of Jesus) = The arithosophy = The Codex=Greek Meditation. You are smiling now. You can't believe it but so it is.

Dear friends,

Our language has been under constant attack from various anti-Hellenic groups. It’s a fact and I wouldn’t want to start something without proof. I have a direct source from the Ministry of Education & Religion (the only ministry in the world which has the church stuck up its butt so deep that its never coming out) who says the books that are published for middle school are deliberately being simplified and changed in such an uneducational manner, which means that children do not receive proper knowledge of their own language. Imagine if you were taught only half of what you were given to study and you were supposed to guess the rest. Basically kids are not taught how to think for themselves.

So if you wonder where all the comotion of the derailment of our language is coming from look at the head of Greece.... Fortunately, this is issue of the church state becoming so CORRUPT is no longer something we should all be afraid of talking about anymore.
It has nothing to do with religion but with the fact that corruption has evolved in the one place where we least expected it. They have the key to alter everything in our lives and in our language as they are the master of puppets.

There’s no place like home.......... (And home is Greece) Its time to teach our kids Greek (9 million words), not neo-Greek (900 thousand words) which we use today. Our brains once used that language and look what we accomplished. It’s up to us to bring it back!!!

I would be able to pass any exam in my school...heh. You guys have letters you don't need, that much is true, so many i's, o's and ksi and psi, I don't know why are those needed. Perhaps this language (dimotiki?) is easier to you that katharevousa, but is still very hard to outsiders.

Adi, everything we don't learn from our childhood is difficult. This does not mean we just have to simplify it. Language is not only for children, it is for those who can think, speak and write. You may have to search about Greek language more. It's the only language that can be recognized by computers because it has reasoning. Maybe my English are not perfect, I hope you can understand me. I was born and raised in mother Greece and my language is that makes me a different person in global civilization. Difference is not bad, similarity will erase our civilization.

Mathematics are difficult too but we don't learn only 1+1 = 2. Mathematics is logic, our language is logic too.

Our Ancient Ancestors were spread in all the know world of those times. But they had the 'Common of Greeks". What was this? The Language, the Religion and the Customs. That's why they were called Greeks and not international citizen. Let's keep this 'Common of Greeks" in nowadays.
