What English words/phrases do your parents butcher?

I was having a conversation with my mom and she was mad at one of our neighbors and called him a "sadababeets" instead of "son of a bitch"! It took me a few minutes to figure that one out and I told my friend on the phone and she said her parents always butchered English words too, so I'm wondering what all you other Greeks out there had to deal with :)

My dad used to say Mydahnos for McDonalds and seet instead of sh*t. There were a bunch, I'll come back when I think of more!

OMG! floorie and roofie for floor and roof lol!

Not as funny as others, but my mom can't say "shouldn't" so she says "soont" LOL

that's awesome! I'm gonna start saying it that way ;)

Some classics I grew up with are:

To Roofie - The roof

May-Danos - McDonalds

To Karo - Automobile

Nea Eorki - New York

to add to Anastasia's word 'Sadababeets' the plural: 'Sadababeetsides'

Hey Ari! How are you? We posted a hilarious article on the WWG Facebook wall yesterday. I think it may have inspired this topic. ;-) Here's the funny Greek Gateway Guide to Grenglish for those who may have missed it. Enjoy!

Cheers to all our fellow Hellenes!

That's great, I saw it on the FB page today, we also have one on the site from almost 10 years ago!! http://www.greekboston.com/greekhumor/jokes/jokelist.shtml#greekalish

wassamasini to my mom is a washing machine LOL!!

These are all words my family members use on a regular basis!  But my mom and aunts do something a little more special, they continuously misuse or invent words.  For example:  "My soldier (shoulder) hurts,"  "Every body in this house is stupid asses holes (stupid ass holes)," and my all time favorite...."Thank you very much I am so appreciastic! (appreciative and enthusiastic joining forces)"

The one I always thought was funny was the word pizza..or anything with an R in it. We orrrrderrrrr picha

The funniest thing is when my dad would get pissed and try to swear he would say "fhak" instead of f**k he never said sadaba,,, but he does say "salaba beets" lol SO rant might be something like: "Fhak you! you Salaba beets you stupid seety thing! lol

haha! That's too funny Christos :)

Greek Style Pork Tenderloin

Posted by Greek Cooking with my Sisters on May 21, 2013 at 8:17am 0 Comments

My sister Caroline makes a mean pork tenderloin, or should I say tenderloins. She's made it in so many ways and with various sauces such as apple, raspberry, mustard cream - you name it, she’s probably tried it. Today she made it in one of my favorite ways - Greek style, which is also one of the easier ways to…
