When i was about 10 or 11 years old, i went on the annual greek school summer trip to greece...
I still remember it so clearly...
Even though we were all too young to understand or apreciate everything as an adult would, we were still mesmorised & in total awe of the things we saw...
I remember going to the acroplolis & just standing there looking at the parthenon, i didn't quite know the history or importance as a 10 or 11 year old but i still felt like i was in the presence of something great...
I remember going around the ancient agora & again, even as a child who wanted to just play on the beach, i felt in total awe of what i saw...
Places such as Marathon, Corinth canal, Mycene, Sounion, Delphi etc aswell as all the fun stuff like beaches, BBQ's & just being children...
If somebody offered me millions of pounds, dollars or euros to not have had that experience as a young child, i'd tell them where to shove it...
I think it was the start of my passion for Greek history, philosophy, art & literature that still burns in me today...
That trip changed my life in so many ways...It bought me face to face with the past of our Greece & ouir ancestors in ways that no books, films or lectures ever could...
If you can find a way to take your pupils on a trip to Greece, please, please, please do...
Even if one of them is affected by the trip in the same way i was, it'll be worth it...

Thank you for your christmas wishes. I too hope the new year brings everything you ask for. Now if we could be in Greece for chrstmas that would have been real nice...........
