Can I bring wine to a BBQ? Yes, and make it a Santorini white!

One of the most interesting things we've noticed when attending many summer BBQs is this: nobody brings white wine! You're probably thinking, "well there's a reason for that", but we would like to respectfully disagree with that sentiment.

In our opinion, the cruel banishment of white wine from everyone's favorite summer pastime is unnecessary. The main reason we believe most people skip the white is because they focus mainly on the meat, and nobody is really thinking of the heat, and most of us know - it's hot outside! Maybe you don't like to drink white wine with red meat, but consider how much of the actual time at a BBQ is spent eating and how much is spent chatting, socializing, and waiting your turn as every person in your parea loads up on steak. We would say 75% of your time is spent on things like preparing, socializing, and drinking, with maybe 25% of it actually eating. So why not bring a bottle of white that's crisp and lean and doesn't contain too much alcohol? There are several white wines that will do the trick, like Corsican Vermentino, Muscadet, or Albarino, but our favorite (and the best!) is Assyrtiko from Santorini. When the temperature outside calls for a cool-down, the crisp blend of Assyrtiko is perfect, and has the added benefit of being inexpensive.

Try it out at your next BBQ and enjoy!

Greek Style Pork Tenderloin

Posted by Greek Cooking with my Sisters on May 21, 2013 at 8:17am 0 Comments

My sister Caroline makes a mean pork tenderloin, or should I say tenderloins. She's made it in so many ways and with various sauces such as apple, raspberry, mustard cream - you name it, she’s probably tried it. Today she made it in one of my favorite ways - Greek style, which is also one of the easier ways to…
