You're right, snails are everywhere on Crete. I was walking through a small village near Agios Nikolaos and watched a woman collecting snails. It had just rained. We went to speak with her and she was saying that both snails and the carob trees helped the Cretans prevent starvation during WWII...

I agree - this is one of my favorite things to do in Thessaloniki, and the film festival is a great one not only for Greece, but the independent film industry as a whole.

I am a huge fan of Chania old town! It is one of my favorite "old towns" in Greece. I also enjoy Lindos on Rhodes, as well as the Plaka in Athens.

I have never made this bread, but I do enjoy eating it. It tastes a bit like tsoureki to me, but that could be because of the spice used? I am not all that confident in my bread-making skills, so I am nervous to try making it, but this recipe does look pretty straightforward. It looks delicious...

This is actually my favorite Greek cookie for the holidays! I love having it at Christmas, it feels so festive. Someone told me once that they are considered the "celebration" cookie, so I started to serve it at all happy occasions, and for me, Christmas is one of those. It also tastes great...

I didn't know that Greece had Christmas markets! This looks amazing. I can't go to Greece this year for Christmas, but when I do get there (hopefully next year) I will put visiting the markets on my list.
