Rizinia is a lost ancient city in Crete

Understanding the Cretan vs standard Greek dialects

This is fascinating - the Cretan dialect is different, and I didn't initially learn this dialect. However, after a week in Crete my ear seems to tune into it.

How to be safe when taking taxis in Greece

100% - Another tip is sometimes I'll need a taxi for a longer excursion, as I don't always rent a car in Greece. I've even hired a driver for the day to take me around. They're so knowledgeable and can even act as a guide! One driver took me and my family to his favorite taverna where we had...

    Share your Greek tongue twisters!

Agreed!!! These tongue twisters are so fascinating. I kept wanting to drip the "ita" in papia (sorry I am on my work computer, and I don't have the Greek keyboard installed.

Check out “Worlds Apart,” a movie about the economic crisis in Greece

I'd be interested in seeing this film. I spent some time in Crete on a few occasions during the crisis, at different points of it, and I noticed that peoples' mindsets were different each time. Does anyone know where I can do that (I am in the US). I tried looking around for it and couldn't...

Samaria Gorge in Crete has dazzled me

Same here. It's one of the experiences that made me fall in love with Crete. I did the hike and then spent some time in the village below. Ate a delicious meal at the taverna and then spent a few hours lounging on the black sand beach. Took a nice nap and got some sun. Oh yes, and I drank fresh...

The statues of Cleopatra and her husband Dioscurides!

I have been intrigued by Delos for some time - seems like there are a lot of great artifacts there. I didn't realize Cleopatra and her husband were depicted here!

Did you know that you can go spring skiing in Crete?

I have heard this, but I have been to Crete during this time of year. That sounds so fun! Maybe some day I will be able to go to Crete when the skiing is still going on.

Phaestos (Phaistos) Palace is a Minoan treasure in Crete!

This palace is also highly underrated. When people think Minoan, they automatically assume Knossos, but there are other Minoan palaces on the island like Phaistos that are worth checking out.

    I love traditional Cretan clothing

This is one thing that stood out to me while I was in Crete. I bumped into a folk dance performance in Old Town Chania and the costumes were gorgeous. Someone told me later that they were handmade and hand embroidered. Stunning.
