    Who was Ioannis Metaxas?

Metaxas is one of my favorite Greek historical figures to study. One thing that really fascinates me is how polarizing he was. Some people loved him, some labeled him a dictator. One thing we can't deny is his influence and legacy, though, such as the role he played with "Ohi Day".

In history, you don't often hear about the role of women. This is an interesting roundup of names, and they are worth researching more. There's a nice mix of women here, too - poets, athletes, etc. I wish we knew of more.

I would be interested to hear how the people of Mani see it... I agree, the story is beautiful!

What role did Mani play in Greek independence?

I think Mani declared war against the Ottoman Empire about a week or so before the rest of Greece. Mani is looked at as a catalyst for the war, their boldness in declaring war as a region inspired the rest of Greece to follow suit. Fascinating part of Greek history!

What is the relationship between Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt?

I don't know much, but I do know that there is evidence on Crete from the Minoan excavations that the Minoans had trade contact with Ancient Egypt. Some goods of Egyptian origin have been found at dig sites.
