I’m planning a 3-week trip to Greece and could use some advice on building the perfect itinerary. I know I definitely want to visit Kefalonia and Athens, but I’m torn about where else to go for my third destination. Should I add another island like Santorini, Crete, or Corfu, or stick to the mainland and explore somewhere like Delphi or Meteora?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on how to balance the time between these spots. How many days should I spend in each place? Are there any must-see attractions or experiences I shouldn’t miss?

Also, any tips on transportation would be really helpful! Should I rely on ferries, flights, or a rental car?

I want to soak in the culture, enjoy amazing food, and see both historic sites and natural beauty. Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Your trip sounds amazing! For your third destination, consider adding Santorini for its iconic beauty and romantic sunsets, or Crete, which offers a mix of history, culture, and stunning beaches. If you prefer something less touristy, Meteora on the mainland is breathtaking with its monasteries perched on cliffs, and it pairs well with Delphi for a historical and spiritual vibe.

For time allocation, I’d recommend:

  • Athens: 4 days for the Acropolis, museums, and a day trip to Cape Sounion or Delphi.
  • Kefalonia: 6-7 days to explore Myrtos Beach, Melissani Cave, and charming villages like Assos or Fiskardo.
  • Third destination: 7-8 days. Crete deserves a week to explore Chania, Heraklion, and Elafonissi Beach. Santorini can be done in 3-4 days.
Transportation tips:
  • Use ferries for island hopping or flights for longer distances.
  • Rent a car in Kefalonia and Crete for flexibility.
Have fun! I love it here.

Great tips on crafting the perfect Greek itinerary! Exploring the best sights and experiences in Greece is a must for any traveler. Thanks for sharing these insights!

That sounds like an awesome trip! I’d definitely recommend Crete as your third stop. I went there last year, and it has everything – history, amazing food, and some of the best beaches I’ve ever seen. I'd say spend about 3 days in Athens to see the Acropolis and other big sights, 5 days in Kefalonia for a more laid-back vibe, and then about 7 days in Crete, where you can explore ancient ruins, hike Samaria Gorge, and eat your weight in local dishes. For getting around, I’d suggest renting a car in Crete and Kefalonia since it makes exploring easier, and flying between Athens and Crete is quicker than taking a ferry. If you get the chance, definitely try a local moussaka or souvlaki in Athens!

Love this, I have heard so many good things about Crete especially and I am excited to visit Kefalonia too!

10 Days in Greece - No Athens or Islands

I’m planning a 10-day trip to Greece and would love some help crafting an itinerary. I’ve already spent time in Athens and the mainland, so this time, I’d like to focus entirely on the islands or other unique coastal spots. I’m interested in experiencing beautiful beaches, quaint villages, local culture, and, of course, some fantastic Greek food!

I’m open to a mix of popular spots and lesser-known islands, and I’d love suggestions on which islands are must-sees and how long to spend on each one. I’m especially curious if anyone has tips on efficient ferry routes or if it’s worth flying between some of the farther islands. Also, any recommendations on accommodations or local experiences would be amazing!

Thanks so much for any advice or ideas you can share.

Tips for Visiting the Dodecanese Islands

Hi everyone! I’m planning a trip to the Dodecanese Islands and could use some advice on which islands to prioritize. There are so many to choose from—Rhodes, Kos, Symi, Patmos, Karpathos, Astypalaia, and more—but I won’t have time to see them all.

I love a mix of history, beautiful beaches, authentic Greek food, and charming villages. I’d love to visit at least one island with a lively atmosphere and another that’s more off-the-beaten-path. If you’ve been, which ones stood out to you the most?

Also, any general tips for visiting the Dodecanese? Is island-hopping easy between them? Are there ferry routes that work well for multiple stops, or would it be better to focus on just 1–2 islands?

happy new year

Public Transportation Mainland Greece

I’m planning a trip to mainland Greece and want to explore beyond just Athens. I’ve heard that public transportation, like buses and trains, can be a great way to get around, but I’m not sure how easy it is to navigate, especially as a tourist who doesn’t speak Greek.

Can anyone share tips on using public transportation in places like Thessaloniki, Delphi, or the Peloponnese? Are the buses and trains reliable and frequent, or is renting a car a better option for flexibility? Also, is there a good website or app for checking schedules and buying tickets in advance?

I’d love to hear about your experiences and any recommendations you might have for making the most out of traveling through Greece’s public transport system.
