What do you guys prefer when you're traveling to Greece? I plan on visiting Athens and Zakynthos this year. Any advice on which is better in your experience?

Great question!

Few years ago my family and I went to Zakynthos and Athens and used an Airbnb and had a great experience!

I would say it depends if you want a place to cook and wash clothes then Airbnb in Greece works. If you want to not cook at all want to use a laundry service, pool and gym then a hotel would be a good fit.

Hope this helps!

Airbnb always! I feel like they're more worth it and much more comfortable to stay in. If you're traveling in a big group you can get a bigger airbnb and split the price between everyone and it'll be more worth it.

I agree with you. We were a party of 13 and stayed at AirBnB for mosst of the 3 weeks in different parts of Greece, except for our stay in Athens and Delphi. The owners and or their agents could not have been nicer often leaving fruit baskets for the group. But if you research hotels and apartments you can get some really good deals at the smaller places. We stayed away from the large commercial places. Thef next time we went we stayed outside of Alexandria in an AirBnB in the little town of Kymina which is about 40 minutes by bus west of Thessaloniki.

I hear that there are some great AirBnBs in Greece, though I have never done it. I tend to stay in hotels and resorts, and that seems to suit my needs. It depends on who I am traveling with - I would prefer an AirBnB if I were traveling with a big group of friends, but with my family I tend to prefer a hotel.

We had great success with Air B & B's in Greece staying in Delphi, Santorini, Crete and Corinth

Kymina is beautiful! AirBnb's are always how I find hidden gems in Greece because many local Greeks rent their summer homes on Airbnb which are usually in smaller and more remote beach towns. If you want to go to classic tourist spots...get a hotel. But if you're looking to experience authentic Greek spots that are more lowkey then Airbnb can be great

When choosing between Airbnb or a hotel in Greece, I lean toward Airbnb. Staying in an Airbnb can give you a real taste of local life. You often get a unique place with character and have the chance to chat with your host, who can share great insider tips about the area. It feels cozier and more like home. Plus, if you’re traveling with a group, it can be way cheaper than booking several hotel rooms.
On the other hand, hotels do have their perks, like room service and amenities. But for me, the charm of an Airbnb often wins out. If you need some guidance or help with the logistics, check out Airbnb Management Melbourne; they have some great options. Overall, it comes down to what kind of experience you’re after, but I’d suggest giving Airbnb a shot!

Best Greek Islands for Food Lovers?

I’m planning my next trip to Greece and, as a big food lover, I’m hoping to explore the islands with the best culinary scenes. I know every island has its own specialties, but I’d love to hear from those who have traveled around—what are the best Greek islands for amazing food experiences?

I’m especially interested in islands where I can find authentic local dishes, fresh seafood, traditional Greek meze, and maybe even unique island-specific specialties that aren’t as well-known. Also, any tips on islands with great local markets, farm-to-table restaurants, or even cooking classes where I can learn to make some Greek dishes would be amazing.

For context, I’ve already been to Crete, which was incredible, so I’d love to find another island with a similar focus on fresh, traditional cuisine. Any recommendations or must-try dishes would be greatly appreciated—thanks so much for your help!

happy new year

Has anyone visited Delphi?

I’m planning a trip to Delphi and would love some advice from anyone who has been there. I’m particularly excited to see the archaeological site and the famous Temple of Apollo, but I’d also like to know if there are any hidden gems nearby worth exploring.

Do you have recommendations for the best times to visit to avoid crowds? Are there local guides you’d suggest? Also, I’m curious about nearby restaurants or cafes that serve authentic Greek food.

Any tips on where to stay in the area or how much time to set aside for a visit would be fantastic too. Thanks in advance!

Advice for Creating a Greek Itinerary?

I’m planning a 3-week trip to Greece and could use some advice on building the perfect itinerary. I know I definitely want to visit Kefalonia and Athens, but I’m torn about where else to go for my third destination. Should I add another island like Santorini, Crete, or Corfu, or stick to the mainland and explore somewhere like Delphi or Meteora?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on how to balance the time between these spots. How many days should I spend in each place? Are there any must-see attractions or experiences I shouldn’t miss?

Also, any tips on transportation would be really helpful! Should I rely on ferries, flights, or a rental car?

I want to soak in the culture, enjoy amazing food, and see both historic sites and natural beauty. Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Time of year to visit Greece?

The tourist season for this year has been over and it's been a while since I've gone. I want to take my family. When is the best time to go? My kids are home schooled so I don't have to worry about that. I’ve heard different opinions depending on the season, so I’m a bit torn. Summer seems to be popular for island hopping and beach days, but I’m worried about the crowds and high prices. On the other hand, spring and fall sound appealing for fewer tourists and pleasant weather, but I’m not sure if everything is open or if I’d miss out on anything special. Winter is also an option, though I know it’s the off-season.

For those who have been to Greece during different times of the year, when would you recommend visiting and why? I’d appreciate any tips or insights!
