Are most of the tavernas open in Argostoli?

What is the state of things in Kefalonia? Are most of the restaurants and tavernas open? Thanks everyone!!
 
We have been in Argostoli for 3 months and returned to UK about 2 weeks ago. Almost every restaurant and cafe was open although a few had literally done so in the last week that we were there. Sadly there a few who haven't weathered the storm financially and have not reopened.

Most of the 'tourist' locations elsewhere have some places open though again maybe not as many as before.

That is so sad to hear :( I wish that the people who owned these businesses are okay and that they found another way to make a living

I agree, it's sad! It will be great once this pandemic is over... I wanted to go to Kefalonia/Greece this year but decided to hold off.

I agree, it's definitely sad! I think we will all be happy when the pandemic is over...

For sure, I haven't decided when to go yet. I think I need to see what happens with the Delta Variant. I am hoping for next summer, fingers crossed!

Fiskardo vs. Assos: Which Do You Prefer?

I'm considering a trip to Kefalonia sometime in the future and am still in the information-gathering stage. One comparison that keeps coming up is Fiskardo versus Assos. Both look absolutely beautiful in photos, but they seem to have very different personalities.

Fiskardo appears to be larger, with more restaurants, boats, and activity, while Assos looks quieter and perhaps a little more traditional. Since I haven't finalized any plans yet, I'm curious what people who have visited think.

If you had to choose one, which would it be and why? Is one better for relaxing and enjoying the scenery? Does one have better food, beaches, or overall atmosphere? Would you stay overnight in either location, or are they better as day trips?

Tips for Visiting Drogarati Cave

I’d love to hear your tips for visiting Drogarati Cave. I’ve loved Greece my whole life, I’m Greek, and somehow I’ve never made it to these caves, which feels almost unbelievable to admit. I’m finally starting to plan a trip to Kefalonia, and Drogarati is high on my list.

I’m curious about the practical side as much as the experience itself. Is it best to go early in the day or later? How strenuous is the walk and the stairs, and is it manageable if you want to take your time? I’ve also heard the acoustics are incredible, especially when concerts are held there. Does that change how you experience the space?

Any advice on what to expect, what surprised you, or how to make the visit feel meaningful rather than rushed would be appreciated. I’d love to experience it with the right mindset.

One of the things I always look forward to when traveling in Greece is finding a taverna with a beautiful sea view. There’s just something about sitting outside, looking out over the water, and enjoying a long meal that makes the whole experience feel even more memorable.

I’m hoping to spend some time on Kefalonia and would love to hear your recommendations for tavernas where the view is part of the experience. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy—sometimes the simple places end up being the best—but a great setting overlooking the sea is always a bonus.

Info About Petani Beach on Kefalonia?

I’m planning a trip to Kefalonia this summer and have been looking into Petani Beach. From photos, it looks incredible, the cliffs, the water color, and the whole setting seem really dramatic, almost like a quieter version of Myrtos.

I’m curious what it’s actually like in peak summer though. Does it get very crowded, or is it still possible to enjoy it without feeling packed in? I’ve also heard the drive down is pretty steep and winding, was it manageable or a bit stressful?

Another thing I’m wondering about is the water. I’ve read that it can get deep quickly and sometimes has waves, did that impact swimming at all?

Off the Beaten Track Beaches in Kefalonia

I’m starting to plan a trip to Kefalonia, and while I know there are some famous beaches on the island, I’m much more interested in finding places that feel a little more off the beaten track. The kind of beaches where you might need to drive a bit farther, walk down a path, or just put in a little extra effort, but in return you get fewer crowds and a more natural atmosphere.

I don’t mind if there aren’t many amenities. In fact, I usually prefer beaches that feel untouched rather than highly organized with rows of umbrellas and beach bars. Clear water, beautiful scenery, and a peaceful vibe matter more to me than convenience.

Are there any beaches in Kefalonia that you’d recommend that fit this description? Maybe hidden coves, quieter stretches of coastline, or places locals tend to go?
