I have to go to Athens for a business trip and I won't have time to tour around Greece. I'll only be there maybe 5 nights. I want to go to the beach, though, since it's summer!

I would love some recommendations on the best beaches to visit. I'm looking for a mix of beautiful scenery, good amenities, and perhaps a few spots that are less crowded. Here are a few specifics I'm considering:

1. Family-friendly beaches: Any spots that are particularly good for families with kids?

2. Secluded beaches: Are there any hidden gems where I can avoid the crowds?

3. Water sports: I'm interested in trying some water sports, so suggestions for beaches where these are available would be great.

4. Beach bars and restaurants: Any suggestions for beaches that have great food and drink options nearby?

Thanks in advance for your help! I'm excited to explore the Athens Riviera.

The Athens Riviera has some fantastic beaches for you to enjoy. For family-friendly beaches, try Vouliagmeni Beach. It has shallow waters, playgrounds, and plenty of amenities, making it perfect for kids.

If you’re looking for secluded spots, head to Kavouri Beach. It’s a bit quieter and offers beautiful scenery without the crowds. Another hidden gem is KAPE Beach, near Sounion, which is more remote but incredibly picturesque.

For water sports, Varkiza Beach is a great choice. It has facilities for windsurfing, paddleboarding, and more. Plus, the vibe is energetic and fun.

If you want beach bars and restaurants, Astir Beach is top-notch. It’s a bit upscale but has excellent dining options and a luxurious atmosphere.

Hiking Trails in or Near Athens?

Last time I was in Athens, someone mentioned that locals enjoy hiking and walking, but I never got the chance to experience it myself. I always thought of Athens as more of an urban city, but now I’m curious—are there any good trails within the city or nearby that I can try on my next trip?

I’ve heard about Mount Lycabettus for great city views and Philopappos Hill for a scenic walk near the Acropolis, but are there other lesser-known spots? Maybe something a bit more nature-focused?

Also, are there any trails just outside the city that are worth a short trip? I love historical sites, so if there’s a hike that combines nature with ruins or ancient landmarks, that would be amazing!

Would love to hear any recommendations—whether it’s an easy walk or a real hike.

Visiting the Agora in Athens - Advice?

I’m planning a trip to Athens and definitely want to visit the Ancient Agora, but I’d love some tips to make the most of my time there.

For starters, what’s the best time of day to visit? I’ve heard it can get pretty busy and warm, so I’d like to avoid the crowds and heat if possible. Also, is there a specific entrance that’s better to start from?

Are there any must-see spots within the Agora I should prioritize? I’m particularly interested in ancient history and architecture, so I’d love recommendations for highlights like the Temple of Hephaestus or the Stoa of Attalos.

Lastly, are there any good guides (audio or in-person) you’d recommend, or is it better to explore on my own? Bonus points for tips on nearby cafés or restaurants for a post-visit meal!

Rooftop Dining Options by the Parthenon?

I’ve been to Athens several times and absolutely love the city, but I just realized I’ve never tried rooftop dining with a view of the Parthenon. I’d love to change that on my next trip!

Can anyone recommend some great rooftop restaurants or bars near the Acropolis where I can enjoy a fantastic meal (or even just a drink) with that iconic view? I’m open to different vibes—whether it’s casual and relaxed or more upscale and romantic.

Bonus points if the food is as good as the view, especially if they serve authentic Greek dishes or creative takes on traditional flavors. Also, any tips on whether reservations are needed or the best time to go for fewer crowds and the most stunning sunset views would be super helpful.

Historical Day Trips from Athens

I’ll be in Athens soon and would love to take a few historical day trips to explore ancient sites beyond the city. I know there’s so much history in Greece, and I want to make the most of my time!

Some places I’m considering:
Delphi – Worth the trip for the Oracle and ruins?
Mycenae & Epidaurus – Is it doable in one day?
Corinth – Any must-see spots besides the canal?
Sounion – How impressive is the Temple of Poseidon at sunset?

Are there any hidden gems or lesser-known historical sites that are just as fascinating? Also, any tips on the best way to get to these places—guided tour vs. renting a car? Thanks!

Good Hotel or Rental Apartment Near Piraeus?

I'm planning a trip to Greece with a group of friends, and we're looking for accommodations near Piraeus Port. Our group has mixed plans: some will be island hopping, while others will stay around Athens. So, being close to the port would give us the flexibility we need.

We'll be in Greece for about 10 days, and we're open to both hotels and rental apartments. Key factors for us are:
  • Proximity to Piraeus Port for easy ferry access
  • Comfortable and clean accommodations
  • Options that can accommodate a group setting
If you've stayed in the area and have any recommendations or experiences to share, we'd greatly appreciate your insights!
Share and discuss your Athens photos, questions and experiences!
