I’m looking for some advice on where a first-time visitor to Corfu might enjoy staying, because I’m oddly stuck on what to recommend.

I’ve been to Corfu many times and know the island pretty well, but that’s almost the problem—I’m so familiar with it that I’m not sure what makes the most sense for someone seeing it for the first time. A friend of mine is planning their first trip, and they’ve asked me where they should base themselves.

Would you steer a first-timer toward Old Town for the history and atmosphere, or is it better to stay near a beach area like Paleokastritsa, Glyfada, or Agios Gordios? How important is having a car for these areas, and are there spots that balance scenery, walkability, and easy day trips?

I’d love to hear what you’d recommend to someone who wants a classic Corfu experience without feeling overwhelmed or isolated.

For a first-time visit, I’d lean toward Old Town Corfu as a base. It’s endlessly charming, walkable, and packed with history, so much of what makes the island special is right at your doorstep. Wandering the winding streets, popping into cafés, exploring the forts, and soaking up the Venetian vibes makes for a memorable first trip without ever needing to rush off somewhere else every day.

That said, if your friend is craving classic beach scenery and laid-back swims, a coastal base like Agios Gordios or Paleokastritsa is lovely, they offer dramatic views and great water, but a car helps a lot for exploring other parts of Corfu from those areas.

A great compromise can be Gouvia or Kontokali, close enough to Old Town for easy nights out, quieter than the center, and still near beaches and day trips. A car isn’t required in Old Town, but it definitely opens up the island if they want to explore beyond.

I stayed nearby recently and booked through melbourne central accommodation, which made things super easy. The rooms were comfy, the 24-hour reception came in handy after a late flight, and having the restaurant and gym onsite saved me a bunch of time. The location is gold if you want quick access to transport and the main spots, and parking was straightforward with clear rates.

Religious Orthodox Sites to See in Corfu?

I might be going to Corfu soon and recently heard that there are some really meaningful Greek Orthodox sites on the island—but of course, I didn’t write them down and now I can’t remember what they were.

I’m definitely interested in seeing more than just beaches and would love to experience some of the religious or spiritual side of Corfu while I’m there. I’ve heard there are historic churches, monasteries, and possibly sites connected to important saints or traditions, but I’m not sure where to start.

Are there specific Orthodox churches or monasteries that are considered must-see? I’m especially curious about places with history, beautiful architecture, or a strong local connection. Thank you!

Best areas to stay in Corfu for first-time visitors?

Hiking trails on Corfu?

I’m starting to look more seriously at Corfu for a future trip, and one thing that really appeals to me is the landscape. The island seems greener than many other parts of Greece, and I’ve heard there are some beautiful hiking opportunities with coastal views, hills, and even mountain scenery.

I’d love to include a few hikes in my itinerary, but I’m not sure where to start. Are there particular trails that stand out for scenery or overall experience? I’ve come across mentions of the Corfu Trail, but I’m also curious about shorter routes that could be done in half a day.

For those who have hiked there, how difficult are the trails generally? Any recommendations for specific areas, viewpoints, or routes that are especially memorable?
Also interested in practical tips, best seasons, footwear, or things to watch out for.

Would love to hear your experiences and suggestions!

Corfu Itinerary for 3 Days?

It’s been quite a few years since I last visited Corfu, and I’m thinking of spending a few days there the next time I’m in Greece. I remember loving the island’s mix of Venetian charm, lush green hills, and crystal-blue beaches, but it’s been so long that I feel like I need a refresher!

If you had 3 full days in Corfu, how would you plan your itinerary? I’d love a balance of history, nature, and relaxation, maybe one day exploring Corfu Town and its fortresses, another out in the villages or countryside, and a day by the sea. I’m especially interested in beautiful coastal drives, local food spots, and any hidden gems that don’t feel overly touristy. What do you think?

Corfu beaches locals actually go to?

I’m starting to think seriously about a trip to Corfu, and I’d love some local insight before I get too deep into planning.

When I travel, I’m much more drawn to places that feel lived-in rather than curated for visitors. I’m not really looking for beach clubs, rows of umbrellas, or spots chosen mainly because they photograph well. What I love most are beaches where locals actually spend time, like places you might stop at after work, go with family on a Sunday, or return to year after year without much fuss.

Are there beaches in Corfu that still feel like that? Maybe quieter coves, less obvious stretches of sand, or spots that don’t show up on every “top ten” list? I’m happy to trade amenities for atmosphere. I’d really appreciate hearing which beaches locals gravitate toward.
