Best Beach in Kefalonia to Visit?

I’m heading to Kefalonia soon, but I might not have a lot of time to spend at the beach. I know the island is famous for its stunning coastline, so I want to make sure I visit at least one amazing beach while I’m there.

From what I’ve seen, Myrtos Beach looks incredible, but I’ve also heard great things about Petani Beach and Antisamos Beach. If you could visit just one beach in Kefalonia, which would you choose and why? I’m looking for a mix of scenery, accessibility, and a great swimming experience. Bonus points if there’s a nice taverna nearby for a quick meal! What do you think?
 
If you can only visit one beach in Kefalonia, Myrtos Beach is the top choice! It’s the island’s most iconic beach for a reason—breathtaking white pebbles, dramatic cliffs, and the most stunning shades of blue you’ll ever see. The view from above is worth the trip alone! However, keep in mind that the waves can sometimes be strong, so it’s not always the best for calm swimming.

If you prefer a beach with easier swimming conditions and a great taverna nearby, Petani Beach is a fantastic alternative. It has similarly striking scenery but with calmer waters on most days. Plus, Fish Taverna Porto Petani is right on the beach and serves delicious fresh seafood.

Antisamos Beach is another great option, especially if you enjoy a more vibrant atmosphere with beach bars and crystal-clear water, but if you’re looking for that picture-perfect Kefalonian experience, Myrtos is the best!

Fiskardo vs. Assos: Which Do You Prefer?

I'm considering a trip to Kefalonia sometime in the future and am still in the information-gathering stage. One comparison that keeps coming up is Fiskardo versus Assos. Both look absolutely beautiful in photos, but they seem to have very different personalities.

Fiskardo appears to be larger, with more restaurants, boats, and activity, while Assos looks quieter and perhaps a little more traditional. Since I haven't finalized any plans yet, I'm curious what people who have visited think.

If you had to choose one, which would it be and why? Is one better for relaxing and enjoying the scenery? Does one have better food, beaches, or overall atmosphere? Would you stay overnight in either location, or are they better as day trips?

Lixouri for a vacation apartment?

I’m planning a trip to Kefalonia next summer with a big group — family and close friends, around 8–10 people total — and we’re thinking of renting a large vacation apartment or villa. Lixouri keeps popping up as an option, but I don’t know much about it beyond being across the bay from Argostoli.

Is Lixouri a good base for a group stay? We’d love to be somewhere with an authentic Greek feel, good local tavernas, walkable areas, and easy access to beaches. We’ll have a few cars, so driving to other parts of the island isn’t a problem, but we don’t want to feel too isolated either.

For anyone who’s stayed there — what’s your impression of Lixouri? Peaceful and charming or a bit too quiet? Would you recommend it for a larger group vacation?

Off the Beaten Track Beaches in Kefalonia

I’m starting to plan a trip to Kefalonia, and while I know there are some famous beaches on the island, I’m much more interested in finding places that feel a little more off the beaten track. The kind of beaches where you might need to drive a bit farther, walk down a path, or just put in a little extra effort, but in return you get fewer crowds and a more natural atmosphere.

I don’t mind if there aren’t many amenities. In fact, I usually prefer beaches that feel untouched rather than highly organized with rows of umbrellas and beach bars. Clear water, beautiful scenery, and a peaceful vibe matter more to me than convenience.

Are there any beaches in Kefalonia that you’d recommend that fit this description? Maybe hidden coves, quieter stretches of coastline, or places locals tend to go?

Info About Petani Beach on Kefalonia?

I’m planning a trip to Kefalonia this summer and have been looking into Petani Beach. From photos, it looks incredible, the cliffs, the water color, and the whole setting seem really dramatic, almost like a quieter version of Myrtos.

I’m curious what it’s actually like in peak summer though. Does it get very crowded, or is it still possible to enjoy it without feeling packed in? I’ve also heard the drive down is pretty steep and winding, was it manageable or a bit stressful?

Another thing I’m wondering about is the water. I’ve read that it can get deep quickly and sometimes has waves, did that impact swimming at all?

Is Skala worth visiting?

I’m in the early stages of planning a trip to Kefalonia and starting to map out where to spend my time. One place that keeps coming up is Skala, but I’m not sure if it’s somewhere I should prioritize or just pass through.

From what I can tell, it seems to have a long sandy beach and a good range of restaurants, which sounds nice. At the same time, I’ve seen people say it’s a bit more built-up and touristy compared to other parts of the island.

I tend to enjoy places that feel relaxed and scenic, but I also appreciate having some options for food and an easy beach day. For those who have been, do you think Skala is worth visiting, or would you recommend focusing on other areas instead?
