Best Beaches in Santorini for Kids?

We’re planning a big family trip for early autumn and Santorini is one of the top contenders. We’ll have a mix of adults and kids in our group, mostly ages 4 to 10, and I’m trying to get a sense of how family-friendly the beaches are.

Are there any beaches on Santorini that are safe, sandy, and good for swimming with younger children? Shade would be a huge plus, or at least nearby tavernas where we can take breaks. We’re also wondering about beach access, are there spots that are easier to reach with kids and beach gear (less rocky or steep)?

We’re not expecting huge playgrounds or anything, just something relaxing and low-key where kids can enjoy the water and we don’t have to stress too much.

Santorini isn’t known for traditional sandy beaches like other Greek islands, but there are still some great family-friendly options, especially in early autumn when the weather is still warm but the crowds have thinned.

Kamari Beach is a top choice for families. It’s easily accessible, has dark sand/pebble mix (bring water shoes), and a lovely boardwalk lined with tavernas and cafés. You’ll find sunbeds with umbrellas, shallow water near the shore, and spots for snacks or bathroom breaks within steps.

Another great option is Perissa Beach, which is similar to Kamari but a bit more laid-back. The sand is darker and fine in places, and there are plenty of family-friendly tavernas right along the beach. Some even have shaded areas or small play zones. You can rent loungers and umbrellas, and the gradual entry into the sea makes it easy for little swimmers.
