Best Coastal Drives in Kefalonia?

I’ve been looking at photos and maps of Kefalonia lately, and what really stands out is how dramatic the coastline seems from above. The cliffs, the sharp turns, the sudden views of turquoise water — it feels like the kind of island where the drive itself is part of the experience.

That made me curious about the best coastal routes on the island. Not just the famous viewpoints, but the actual stretches of road that are especially beautiful to follow. Are there particular drives where the scenery keeps unfolding the entire way? Sections that feel wild and untouched versus more polished and built up?

I’ve heard different opinions about the road between Argostoli and Fiskardo, and also about the western side near Petani and Myrtos. For those who know the island well, which coastal drives truly stand out, and at what time of day do they feel most special?

I haven’t spent a ton of time driving in Kefalonia, but the impression I had was exactly what you’re describing, the roads feel like part of the destination, not just a way to get somewhere. The scale of the cliffs and the color of the water can be almost distracting when you’re behind the wheel.

The stretch toward Myrtos really stood out to me. Those winding turns where the view suddenly opens up over the bay are dramatic in a way that photos don’t quite capture. It feels wild and exposed, especially when there aren’t many buildings around.

I also remember parts of the northern drive toward Fiskardo feeling beautiful but a bit softer, with more greenery and villages breaking up the coastline. Different mood, still memorable.

Time of day makes a big difference. Late afternoon light seemed to bring out the blues and the shadows in the cliffs in a way that made everything look almost unreal.
