I'm planning a trip to Corfu and I'm really interested in exploring some historical ruins while I'm there. I've heard the island has a rich history and some amazing ancient sites. Can anyone recommend the best ruins to visit in Corfu? I'm looking for places that offer a glimpse into the island's past, ideally with some great photo opportunities as well.

Any tips on the must-see historical sites, interesting facts, or even personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

If you’re heading to Corfu and want to dive into its rich history, you’re in for a treat! One must-visit site is the Old Fortress of Corfu in Corfu Town. This Venetian-era fortress offers incredible views of the town and the Ionian Sea, making it a fantastic spot for photos.

For a glimpse into the island’s ancient past, check out the Temple of Artemis ruins, dating back to 580 BC, located near the airport. It’s one of the earliest examples of Doric architecture.

Another site worth visiting is Angelokastro, a Byzantine castle perched high on a hilltop with breathtaking views of the coastline. It’s a bit of a hike but well worth it for the history and the panoramic shots. Don’t miss the Mon Repos Estate, which houses ruins from ancient Corfu, including the Temple of Hera. Enjoy your trip—it’s a historian’s paradise!

  4. Agios Mattheos
  5. Agios Gordios
  6. Sokraki
What do you think? I am having a hard time visualizing things.
