I personally don't know what to make of this!?..... Having worked in Tourism Industry for many years I never believe statistics(I take them with pinch of salt! ?).... Quantifying revenue streams from these two Islands especially Mykonos would be a classified confidential subject, perhaps no one know how it is determined!!?Just a few weeks ago Santorini was restricting numbers,so says the media!?....and now the tour guide says the opposite!....I am going to wait until the end of the summer.Income wise Super Yachts and high end tourism certainly produces substantial revenue,be it may not spreading across, vacant aircraft seats is an indicator of dissatisfied travellers but this has been long time coming!

I’ve seen similar stats get tossed around in past seasons, and sometimes they miss what’s actually happening on the ground. I’ve leaned on restaurant consulting and advisors before to sanity-check trends, and it helped me spot whether drops were real or just noise. If you’ve been in tourism as long as you say, your gut is probably picking up things those reports don’t catch yet.

I had a non-Greek friend ask me to explain it the other day, and I found myself pausing. How do you describe something that’s more of a feeling than a word?

Is it hospitality? Kindness? Generosity toward strangers? Yes, but it’s also more than that. It’s opening your home, your table, and your heart without expecting anything in return. It’s treating a guest like family, even if you’ve just met. It’s an instinct, a pride, a reflection of who we are.

So I’m curious, how would you explain filoxenia to someone who’s never experienced it?
