Greeks seem to have an obsession with smashing pots! Opa! In Corfu, there is an old tradition that is near and dear to my hear called Botides. This is when people smash pots filled with water from their windows and balconies on Holy Saturday. In the Greek Orthodox religion, Holy Saturday is when the first resurrection, when Christ brought salvation to the dead. The tradition of Botides is most popular in Corfu, but can also be seen in other parts of Greece.

I have never heard of this before! It's a neat tradition, if not a little strange. :)

Beautiful Easter ceremonies on the island of Corfu

For Greeks all over the country, Easter is a very special time to be with family and celebrate with your entire community. There are so many special traditions in all of the unique pockets and areas of Greece...these are some traditions that you will see on the island of Corfu. They are so beautiful, and I would love the opportunity to visit the island during the holidays. Are there any other islands that are a must visit during easter?

Check out Agios Gordios beach in Corfu

Agios Gordios Beach is an award winning blue flag beach that is located on the western part of Corfu. It is very popular amongst families and all different types of tourists, and there are many different options for you to visit. Personally, I like to visit the organized beaches where there are beach lounge chairs and the option to order food and drinks. The water is pretty shallow so it's great for bringing small kids.

Nissaki beach is a must visit in Corfu!

Nissaki beach is amazing! It is a small secluded beach that has very clear blue water and white smooth sand with small pebbles. I really recommend it for anyone that is interested in a quieter beach. I do recommend going earlier in the morning to reserve a beach chair, as you can see there aren't many chairs so they fill up quickly. There is also parking right above the beach, but it will also fill up pretty quickly.

How to eat authentic food in Corfu, Greece!

Nothing is better than trying out authentic Greek food in Corfu. The best thing you can do, is make friends with locals and try out some local dishes like sofrito, pastitsada, and savoro. Like many different foods in Greece, Corfu has some of the best and freshest seafood so I highly recommend trying out any seafood dishes!! Let me know if you like this video :)

Should I visit Corfu This Year?

I am planning to visit Greece this year and will go to Athens, maybe Hydra, Santorini, and Mykonos. I will have about a month in the country and I have never been to Corfu. I wonder if I should also visit Corfu this time around? Also, I am not sure Hydra is happening ... I will have time - Santorini/Mykonos will take up about a week of my time in Greece. What do you guys think?
