I'm planning a day trip to Delos from Mykonos and would love some advice on how to make the most of it! I've heard that Delos is rich in history and mythology, and I'm excited to explore the archaeological site. For those who’ve been, what are the must-see highlights on the island? Are there any specific ruins, temples, or statues that I shouldn't miss?

Also, I'd appreciate tips on logistics—how frequently do the ferries run, and is it better to book tickets in advance? Are there guided tours available on the island, or is it easy to explore on your own? I'm also curious about what to bring along—are there places to buy water or snacks, or should I pack everything I need? Lastly, if anyone has any tips on the best times to visit to avoid crowds or beat the heat, I'd love to hear them!

Delos is an incredible day trip from Mykonos, and you’re in for a treat! For must-see highlights, don’t miss the Terrace of the Lions, the House of Dionysus with its stunning mosaics, and the Temple of Isis. The archaeological site is vast, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and take your time exploring.

Ferries usually run several times a day, but I’d recommend booking tickets in advance, especially during peak season. Guided tours are available and highly recommended to fully appreciate the island’s rich history and mythology. If you prefer exploring solo, there are information boards, but a guide will bring the ruins to life.

Finding authentic food in Mykonos?

I’ll be heading to Mykonos soon and I’m really excited to explore the island—but I’m also hoping to eat some trulyauthentic Greek food while I’m there. I’ve noticed that in many of the more touristy areas, the menus tend to feel a bit “idealized”—like a curated version of Greek cuisine made for visitors. Don’t get me wrong, it still tastes great, but I’d love to experience the more local side of Mykonos food culture.

Are there any tavernas or small eateries that locals love? Maybe somewhere off the main tourist paths or in smaller villages? I’d especially love to try dishes that are traditional to Mykonos or the Cyclades region in general.

Any tips or recommendations would be amazing. Thank you in advance!

What's the Beach in Mykonos?

I visited Mykonos a few years ago and had the most amazing time—but now I’m trying to plan a return trip, and I can’t for the life of me remember the name of one particular beach I loved.

It had a relaxed vibe, not too crazy with the party scene, and there was a taverna right on the beach that served grilled fish and wine. I remember the sand was soft, the water was crystal clear, and it wasn’t packed like Paradise or Super Paradise. I think there might’ve been sunbeds, but it still felt low-key and not too commercial.

Does this ring a bell for anyone? Maybe Ornos? Agios Ioannis? Or could it have been Agios Sostis? I wish I had taken better notes, ha!

If you’ve been to Mykonos recently and have suggestions for chill beaches with great food nearby, I’d love to hear your favorites too. Thanks in advance!

Worth going to Delos?

I’m considering doing a day trip to Delos while in Mykonos, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the time. I know it’s an important historical site and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but is it really a must-visit?

For those who have been, did you find it impressive? How long did you spend exploring? I’ve heard there’s a lot of walking and not much shade—does that make it tough in the summer? Also, are the guided tours worth it, or is it better to explore on your own?

I love Greek mythology and ancient history, so I feel like it could be interesting, but I don’t want to spend half a day away from Mykonos if it’s underwhelming. Would you recommend it, or are there better things to do instead? Would love to hear opinions from people who have been!

Any good hikes in Mykonos?

I love the beach, but I might need a break one of the days I plan to be in Mykonos. My travel plans are still not solidified so I am not 100% sure I am even going this year, but I wanted to gather information anyway.

I’ve heard there might be some scenic trails or quieter spots that most tourists miss. Does anyone know of good hikes with great views, especially around sunrise or sunset, that aren’t super crowded? Ideally, something 1–3 hours long, moderate difficulty, and with interesting landscapes (like hidden coves, old windmills, or Mediterranean scrub). Bonus if there’s a nice taverna or beach at the end where I can grab a drink or snack.

If I go, I’ll have a rental car or scooter, so getting to trailheads shouldn’t be a problem. You can recommend them off the beaten track for sure - that's actually what I am looking for...
