If you're looking for ancient sites, don't just stop at the acropolis! Érechthéion is a hidden gem and I had no idea this temple existed. According to Wikipedia "The Erechtheion or Erechtheum is an ancient Greek temple on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens in Greece which was dedicated to both Athena and Poseidon."

Thanks for sharing this. It's easy to think that the Parthenon is the only thing worth visiting at the Acropolis, but there's actually a lot more there that shouldn't be ignored.

It's easy to forget that there is more to the Acropolis than the Parthenon. You could easily spend a whole day there and I would even consider taking a tour so you don't miss anything.

Visiting the Sounio Area

I am flying into Athens soon. I know I want to visit the Temple of Poseidon. In looking into the area, though, it seems like there's a lot more to do than I thought. For example, I saw pics and there's a nice resort in the area...

Should I maybe consider staying in this area? Is there enough to do?

Public Transportation System in Athens

Can anyone give me some advice on the public transportation system in Athens, Greece?

I will be staying in Piraeus but will need to get around. I'll want to visit Acropolis area, as well as several other of the Athens neighborhoods.

Athens airport question...

There's a group of us going to Athens and our flights get in the same day, but at different times.

Is there an easy spot to wait for the rest of our group outside of security, like a cafe or restaurant, or even an area with chairs to sit... I have only been to this airport once, and I don't remember any details about what happens after security.

Where to stay before cruise leaving Piraeus?

I have a friend who is staying in Athens just a few nights then going off on a cruise leaving Piraeus. This is in the late summer sometime. I told her I would ask advice - I am at a loss because I usually spend longer in Greece and get an Air BnB - at least that is what I have been doing lately.

Anyway, where should she stay? Any advice on areas of Athens or even names of hotels?

Piraeus Archaeological Museum

I am going to spending some time in the Piraeus area for a night or so this fall before boarding a ferry. I decided to stay closer to the port rather than in the center of Athens. I noticed that there was a museum in Piraeus! Is this worth visiting? I have never heard of it. I imagine it maybe would have artifacts from nearby digs?
