I’m planning a trip to Kefalonia this spring/summer and would love your input on must-see places on the island. I’ve heard it’s one of the most beautiful Greek islands, and I want to make the most of my time there!

What were your favorite spots—beaches, villages, viewpoints, or natural attractions? I’ve seen photos of Myrtos Beach and Melissani Cave, which look stunning. Are they worth the hype? Any hidden gems you'd recommend that aren't overly touristy?

I’m also interested in local experiences—like wineries, small tavernas, walking trails, or cultural sites. Thank you!

You're going to love Kefalonia—it's absolutely magical! Myrtos Beach is 100% worth the hype, especially at sunset. Melissani Cave is also breathtaking but go early to avoid crowds. For quieter beach time, check out Foki Beach near Fiscardo or Petani Beach on the Paliki peninsula—less touristy but stunning.

Assos is my favorite village—pastel houses, a Venetian castle, and a peaceful vibe. Fiscardo is charming too, with a nice harbor and great seafood tavernas. Drive up to Mount Ainos if you’re into nature—the views and wild horses are unforgettable.

For wineries, try Gentilini or Haritatos—they offer tastings and beautiful settings. And don’t miss a meal at Taverna Agrapidos near Sami—authentic and affordable. There's also a lovely coastal walk between Skala and Poros that’s worth doing in the early morning.

Kefalonia has a laid-back charm that sneaks into your soul. Have the best time!

Good Place to Stay in Kefalonia?

I'm hoping to find an interesting place to stay in Kefalonia beyond the usual hotels—perhaps a charming guesthouse, a villa with character, or even a boutique hotel that offers a more authentic experience of the island.

I'd love to hear about any places you've stayed that have a special atmosphere, stunning views, or a great location near beaches or local attractions. If there are any hidden gems or off-the-beaten-path accommodations that you think I should consider, please share!

I'm also open to any advice on which areas of Kefalonia are best to stay in, especially for first-time visitors looking to explore the island's beauty.

Visiting Kefalonia - Which Other Islands Are Close?

We’re planning a trip to Kefalonia and are so excited to explore its beautiful beaches, villages, and unique sights! Since we’ll be in the area, we’re thinking about adding a visit to a nearby island or two, but we’re not sure which ones are easily accessible and worth the extra travel.

We’ve heard Ithaca is very close and has a lot of history, plus those peaceful, secluded beaches sound amazing. Is it easy to get to from Kefalonia, and would a day trip be enough? We’re also curious about Zakynthos – the pictures of Navagio Beach are stunning! Does anyone know how long it takes to get there by ferry? Are there any other islands or spots you’d recommend?

We’d love any tips on ferry routes, how much time to spend on each island, or any hidden gems we shouldn’t miss while island-hopping. Thank you!

Traditional Dishes to Try in Kefalonia?

Hi everyone! I'm heading to Kefalonia soon and super excited to explore the island’s food scene. I’ve heard there are some amazing local dishes unique to Kefalonia, and I want to make sure I don’t miss out on the most traditional ones.

So far, I’ve seen people mention kreatopita (meat pie), and I’m curious about other authentic things to try — whether it’s main dishes, desserts, or street food. I love trying regional specialties when I travel and would rather eat what the locals eat than stick to touristy menus.

Are there any specific dishes that are only found on Kefalonia? Any tavernas or bakeries that serve amazing local food? I'd also love tips on what to pair with a glass of Robola wine!

Thanks so much — I’m building my must-eat list now and would love your suggestions!

5-Day Kefalonia Itinerary for First Time Visitors?

I’m planning my very first trip to Kefalonia and could really use some help building a 5-day itinerary. I’ll be visiting this summer and want to make the most of my time without feeling too rushed.

I’d love a mix of beautiful beaches, local villages, great food, and maybe one or two cultural or nature-based experiences like caves, wineries, or monasteries. I’ve heard great things about Myrtos Beach, Assos, and Melissani Cave, but I’m not sure how to organize the days or which area to stay in as a base.

Should I stay in one place the whole time or split my stay between two areas (like Argostoli and Fiskardo)? I’ll have a rental car, so I’m open to exploring.

If you’ve been to Kefalonia and have any tips, sample itineraries, or favorite spots, I’d be so grateful for your suggestions. Thank you in advance!

Ruins to Visit in Kefalonia

I’m planning a trip to Kefalonia and am really interested in exploring some historical sites while I’m there. I’ve heard that the island has some fascinating ruins and ancient landmarks, but I’m not sure where to start. I’d love to get recommendations on the best ruins to visit in Kefalonia—whether they’re ancient castles, old villages, or hidden archaeological sites.

I’m particularly interested in places that have a bit of history and are off the beaten path, but I’m open to visiting more popular sites too if they’re worth it. Any tips on the best times to visit, how to get there, or any special things to look out for would be greatly appreciated.
