I am looking forward to seeing Athens again soon. Do you have a favorite sunset spot? My two favorites are Filopappou Hill and the area around the Acropolis. I am looking for some more ideas - I have a great camera and when I go to Greece, I love taking photos around sunset - even better if there is a great view of the sunset itself.

Good morning! Filopappou and Pnyx Hill are top. But if you have time, I would also suggest the Temple of Poseidon at Sounio and the not so known church of Profitis Ilias at Lavrio which offers a 360 view. Lavrio in general is very ...photogenic!

This is STUNNING!!! I haven't visited the temple at Sounio. I will put it on my list.

One of my favorite spots is the Temple of Poseidon at sunset. I highly recommend!

Lykavittos is also a popular sunset spot in Athens. Gets very busy with tourists at sunset time though so you might have to get there a bit earlier to secure a good location to take photos.

Another little known location which I think gives a good view of both Lykavittos and the Acropolis is Strefi Hill in Exarcheia. It doesn't seem like a big hill but it does command surprisingly great views.

Advice for Bartering in Monastiraki?

On my last trip to Athens, I spent some time wandering through Monastiraki and loved the vibrant atmosphere, but I quickly realized that bartering is a skill I could use some help with! I know haggling is expected at flea markets and souvenir stalls, but I wasn’t sure how much to negotiate without being rude.

For those who’ve successfully bartered in Monastiraki—or anywhere else in Greece—what are your best tips? Are there certain phrases in Greek that help? How much should I aim to negotiate off the original price? Are there particular times of day when vendors are more willing to give a deal?

I’d love to hear any advice, personal experiences, or even mistakes to avoid. I want to be respectful while also making sure I get a fair price. Thanks in advance!

Visit the Plaka in Athens?

I’m planning a quick trip to Athens—just two days—and I’d love your advice on how to make the most of it. I’ve heard that Plaka is a great area to stay in, but is it the best choice for such a short visit? I’m looking for a central spot that makes it easy to explore the city’s highlights.

Is Plaka also a good place to find authentic restaurants? I’d love to try some traditional Greek food, so recommendations for hidden gems or must-try dishes in the area would be amazing.

Since I’ll be short on time, I’m trying to prioritize what’s really worth seeing and doing. Should I focus on the Acropolis and museums, or are there other spots in the city you’d recommend?

Nightlife Areas in Athens?

Hey everyone! I’m heading back to Athens soon and I’m hoping to revisit some of the nightlife spots I was shown on my last trip — but I can’t remember where they were! 😅 Last time I was there, a friendly taxi driver pointed out a few popular areas for bars and nightlife as we were driving around, and they seemed super lively with people spilling out onto the streets. I remember one had a kind of artsy, alternative vibe, and another seemed more chic and upscale.

Does anyone know which areas he might have been pointing out? I’m guessing places like Psiri or Gazi might have been on the list, but I’d love some up-to-date recommendations — especially places that locals like to go, not just tourist spots. I’m into live music, cool atmospheres, and anywhere with good drinks and energy. Thanks in advance!

Hiking Trails in or Near Athens?

Last time I was in Athens, someone mentioned that locals enjoy hiking and walking, but I never got the chance to experience it myself. I always thought of Athens as more of an urban city, but now I’m curious—are there any good trails within the city or nearby that I can try on my next trip?

I’ve heard about Mount Lycabettus for great city views and Philopappos Hill for a scenic walk near the Acropolis, but are there other lesser-known spots? Maybe something a bit more nature-focused?

Also, are there any trails just outside the city that are worth a short trip? I love historical sites, so if there’s a hike that combines nature with ruins or ancient landmarks, that would be amazing!

Would love to hear any recommendations—whether it’s an easy walk or a real hike.

Historical Landmarks in Athens Over 3 Days?

I’ll be in Athens for just 3 days this summer and want to make the most of it by exploring the city’s rich history. There’s so much to see, and I’m a bit overwhelmed trying to prioritize!

Of course, the Acropolis and Parthenon are on my list, but I’d love your advice on other must-visit landmarks. Should I make time for the Ancient Agora or the Temple of Olympian Zeus? Is the Acropolis Museum worth it, or would you suggest something like the National Archaeological Museum instead?

I’m also curious about less touristy historical spots—are there any hidden gems or unique sites that tell the story of Athens’ past?
