Festivals of Note for 2026 in Greece?

My family and I are starting to think about a possible trip to Greece in 2026, and this time we’re considering planning part of the trip around a festival or cultural celebration. We’ve been to Greece before, but we’ve never really organized a trip around a specific event.

I know Greece has so many interesting traditions throughout the year. Because of that, I’m starting to gather ideas early while we figure out where we might want to go.

Have any of you traveled to Greece specifically to experience a festival? If so, which ones would you recommend? It could be religious celebrations, food festivals, music events, or local village festivals.
I’d love to hear about any memorable festival experiences that might help us shape our 2026 plans.

We haven’t personally planned a trip around a festival, but we have friends who did, and it completely changed how they experienced Greece. If you’re open to timing your visit, it sounds like it’s worth it.

They went during Greek Easter and stayed in a smaller town. From what they shared, the midnight service, fireworks, and the way the whole community came together made it feel much more immersive than a typical visit.

They also timed part of their trip around the Athens and Epidaurus Festival and saw a performance in an ancient theater, which they still talk about.
What really stood out, though, was a local panigiri they came across on an island, live music, simple food, and everyone dancing late into the night.
Based on that, it seems like picking a region first and then seeing what’s happening locally might be the best approach.
