I was talking with a friend recently who’s been to Corfu many times, and it sparked an interesting question. It’s been over 30 years since his first visit, and he realized he can’t quite remember what his initial impression of the island was anymore. Not what he thinks of Corfu now, but how it landed the very first time.

That made me curious about other people’s experiences. Do you remember how Corfu felt to you on your first visit? Was it the landscape, the Old Town, the food, the pace of life, or something less tangible? Did it meet your expectations, or surprise you in some way?

When a place becomes familiar over time, those first reactions tend to blur or get overwritten by later memories. I’d love to hear from anyone who can still recall that first moment of arrival — what stood out, what confused you, or what made you want to come back.

I haven’t been to Corfu myself yet, but I really relate to this question through other people’s stories. I have a few friends who’ve gone back multiple times, and what strikes me is how differently they describe their first visit compared to how they talk about the island now. The early memories always sound more sensory and slightly uncertain, getting lost in the Old Town, not knowing what beach to go to, being surprised by how green and layered the island felt.

One friend told me they expected something very “classic Greek island” and were thrown at first by how Venetian Corfu feels, especially in the architecture and pace. Another mentioned that the island didn’t fully click until a few days in, once they stopped trying to categorize it. What’s interesting is that even though their later visits are smoother and more confident, they all say that initial sense of surprise is what made them want to return. It seems like Corfu rewards curiosity rather than instant familiarity.

Corfu Itinerary for 3 Days?

It’s been quite a few years since I last visited Corfu, and I’m thinking of spending a few days there the next time I’m in Greece. I remember loving the island’s mix of Venetian charm, lush green hills, and crystal-blue beaches, but it’s been so long that I feel like I need a refresher!

If you had 3 full days in Corfu, how would you plan your itinerary? I’d love a balance of history, nature, and relaxation, maybe one day exploring Corfu Town and its fortresses, another out in the villages or countryside, and a day by the sea. I’m especially interested in beautiful coastal drives, local food spots, and any hidden gems that don’t feel overly touristy. What do you think?

Sunset Photos Corfu?

As you know from my last post, I’m considering a trip to Corfu and I’d love some advice from fellow photography enthusiasts, especially on where to get the best sunset shots!

I’m super into landscape and seascape photography, and I’d like to capture golden-hour views with minimal crowds. Which spots on Corfu give you the most dramatic skies, beautiful silhouettes, or interesting foregrounds? I’ve read about the Old Fortress in Corfu Town, but are there others, clifftops, beaches, hilltops, or lighthouses—that really stand out? I’m also curious about seasonal light differences in autumn: does the angle or color of the sunset change things up compared to summer?

Any tips on timing, access (like whether you need to hike or drive), and the vibe at these locations would be hugely helpful. I’d like to build a shortlist of photo-worthy spots before booking. Thanks in advance—can’t wait to hopefully chase sunsets in Corfu this October!

Hiking trails on Corfu?

I’m starting to look more seriously at Corfu for a future trip, and one thing that really appeals to me is the landscape. The island seems greener than many other parts of Greece, and I’ve heard there are some beautiful hiking opportunities with coastal views, hills, and even mountain scenery.

I’d love to include a few hikes in my itinerary, but I’m not sure where to start. Are there particular trails that stand out for scenery or overall experience? I’ve come across mentions of the Corfu Trail, but I’m also curious about shorter routes that could be done in half a day.

For those who have hiked there, how difficult are the trails generally? Any recommendations for specific areas, viewpoints, or routes that are especially memorable?
Also interested in practical tips, best seasons, footwear, or things to watch out for.

Would love to hear your experiences and suggestions!

Foods to try on Corfu?

I’m starting to plan (or at least daydream about) a trip to Corfu next summer, though nothing is set in stone yet. I’ve been reading about the food there and it sounds amazing! I keep coming across three names that seem to be absolute must-tries: sofrito, pastitsada, and bourdeto.

From what I understand, sofrito is a veal or beef dish with garlic and parsley, pastitsada is pasta with a rich tomato sauce (sometimes with rooster, sometimes with beef), and bourdeto is a spicy fish stew. They all sound so different from each other, but very “Corfiot.”

If you’ve been to Corfu or have family from there, are these really the top local dishes, or are there others I should add to the list? Any favorite tavernas where you’ve had them? I’d love to know which foods really stood out to you during your visit.

Information about Kavos in Corfu?

I'm thinking of heading to Corfu later this summer and came across Kavos as a potential base. I’ve seen really mixed things online — some say it’s party central, while others mention beautiful beaches and a surprisingly relaxed vibe if you go off-season or stay on the edges of town.

I’m not looking for hardcore nightlife, but I do enjoy a lively atmosphere, great food, and easy beach access. I’ll probably rent a car, so day trips are an option. Can anyone share firsthand experiences of staying in Kavos? Is it possible to enjoy it without being in the middle of the club scene? Is it worth it?
