Hey everyone! I’m heading to Corfu soon and would love some recommendations from fellow food lovers. I’m especially interested in authentic local dishes, must-visit tavernas, and any hidden gems where I can enjoy traditional Corfiot cuisine.

What are the absolute must-try foods on the island? I’ve heard about pastitsada and sofrito—any favorite spots to try them? Also, are there any small, family-run tavernas that serve amazing home-cooked meals?

I’d also love suggestions for the best seafood restaurants, bakeries, and markets for fresh local ingredients. Bonus points for places with great views or a cozy atmosphere!

Lastly, any unique food experiences—like olive oil or wine tastings, cooking classes, or farm-to-table dining—would be amazing to check out.

Looking forward to your recommendations! Thanks in advance.

You're in for a treat—Corfu is a food lover’s dream! For pastitsada, head to To Fanari in Paleokastritsa—beautiful views and rich, authentic flavors. Elisabeth’s Taverna in Doukades is a hidden gem for sofrito and traditional Corfiot fare; it’s family-run and feels like dining in someone’s home.

Seafood lovers should check out Taverna Agni in Agni Bay—fresh catch, seafront dining, and a romantic vibe. For bakeries, Starenio in Corfu Town is a must for local pastries. If you’re into markets, the Corfu Town public market is a great spot for fresh produce, herbs, and local cheeses.

Don’t miss the Governor’s Olive Mill for an olive oil tasting—it’s award-winning and very educational. There are also some amazing wine tastings and farm-to-table experiences at Ambelonas Corfu, which also offers cooking classes.

Stay in Corfu town or by the beach?

I'm planning a trip to Corfu this summer and I’m torn between staying in Corfu Town or booking a place by the beach.

I’ve heard Corfu Town is beautiful, walkable, and full of history, shops, and restaurants — which sounds perfect for evening strolls and exploring. But then again, I’m also imagining waking up by the sea, with easy access to a quiet beach and that relaxed island vibe.

We’re planning to rent a car for at least part of the trip, so we’ll be able to explore different areas.

What do you recommend: stay in the heart of Corfu Town and day-trip to beaches, or stay by the coast and drive into town when we want a bit of culture and nightlife? Would love to hear your experiences and suggestions – especially if you've done both!

Corfu in Early Spring?

I’m planning a month-long trip to Greece this coming early spring and could use some advice. It’s my first time visiting, and with so much to see, I’m feeling overwhelmed. Family members have lots of opinions on where to go, and someone recently suggested Corfu, which has piqued my interest.

I’m already considering Athens, Mykonos, and Thessaloniki, maybe one or two more, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether Corfu is worth adding to the itinerary. Is early spring a good time to visit the island? Are there specific sights, experiences, or foods that shouldn’t be missed?

Also, how feasible is it to combine Corfu with the other places I’ve mentioned? Any tips for travel logistics, like ferries or flights, would be helpful.

Paleokastritsa, summer 2025

Hi everyone

I have just joined this site to see if I can get some Corfu travel tips or maybe even meet some other people heading to Corfu next summer.
I am 53, from Derby, England, and I've decided to have a month's RnR in Paleokastritsa.
I'd be really keen to hear from anyone with any tips or insight into the area, life in Corfu, how I might be able to meet people and things to see and do. I'm thinking of hiring a moped to get around, do lots of reading, relaxing, hiking, eating and (a bit of) drinking! Most of all, reflecting and enjoying the environment - and the sunshine! I need to take some time to indulge in this.

What is Paleokastritsa like? From all of my research, it seems to be a good mix of quiet and lively (ie. not party town but also not completely dead). Are there restuarants there which aren't too expensive? Are there any good, chill out bars which stay open late? Also, are there ways to meet other travellers out there or is there anyone on here heading to Corfu next summer who'd be interested in connecting beforehand? It'd be really cool to build a little online community, if there was anyone in a similar position, even if they're going to a different part of the island.

Anyway, that's why I joined this site - to meet any others but also to find out about Corfu and paleokasistra. I'd love to hear from any of you!
All the best,
Neil

Visiting the Castles on Corfu

I’m planning a trip to Corfu and am particularly excited about exploring the island’s castles and fortresses. I’ve heard there are some incredible historical sites like the Old Fortress and the New Fortress in Corfu Town, but I’d love to hear more about them and any other castles that are worth visiting.

Does anyone have recommendations on the best way to explore these sites? Are there guided tours that provide a lot of historical context, or is it better to explore on your own? I’m also curious about any hidden spots or lesser-known castles around the island that I shouldn’t miss. Thank you!

Tips for Where to Stay in Corfu

I’m planning a trip to Corfu and would love some advice on where to stay. I’m leaning toward something with a village feel—somewhere peaceful, beautiful, and authentic rather than super touristy. I’ve been looking into vacation rentals instead of hotels, but I’m still open to suggestions if there’s a special boutique place or hidden gem someone recommends.

Ideally, I’d love to be near a nice beach, have a few tavernas or cafes within walking distance, and enjoy the kind of setting where you can hear the birds in the morning and maybe chat with locals. I’m not against driving, but I’d like to avoid long treks every day if possible.

Any favorite villages or small towns in Corfu that fit this vibe? Would love to hear where you’ve stayed and why you liked it (if you did).
