I'm hoping to find an interesting place to stay in Kefalonia beyond the usual hotels—perhaps a charming guesthouse, a villa with character, or even a boutique hotel that offers a more authentic experience of the island.

I'd love to hear about any places you've stayed that have a special atmosphere, stunning views, or a great location near beaches or local attractions. If there are any hidden gems or off-the-beaten-path accommodations that you think I should consider, please share!

I'm also open to any advice on which areas of Kefalonia are best to stay in, especially for first-time visitors looking to explore the island's beauty.

For a unique stay in Kefalonia, consider Fiscardo Bay Hotel in the picturesque village of Fiscardo. It's a charming boutique hotel with stunning views of the harbor and easy access to local cafes and beaches. If you’re looking for a more secluded option, check out Villa Rosa in Lourdata. It’s a beautiful villa with a private pool, surrounded by lush greenery and close to Lourdas Beach.

For something truly special, try Olive Grove Studios & Apartments near Lassi, which offers cozy accommodations with a homely feel, set among olive groves. As for areas, Assos is perfect for its serene atmosphere and picturesque views, while Skala offers great beaches and a more vibrant scene. For first-time visitors, staying near Argostoli provides easy access to the island’s main attractions, shops, and dining options.

I stayed in Lassi when I visited Kefalonia, and it was a great choice—plenty of restaurants, stunning beaches, and easy access to Argostoli. If you're after more seclusion, Fiskardo is beautiful, though pricier. Assos is small but charming with great views. I usually compare accommodations based on comfort and location, much like when I stayed at mercure perth on hay, which had a convenient spot and cozy rooms.

Favorite places to see in Kefalonia?

I’m planning a trip to Kefalonia this spring/summer and would love your input on must-see places on the island. I’ve heard it’s one of the most beautiful Greek islands, and I want to make the most of my time there!

What were your favorite spots—beaches, villages, viewpoints, or natural attractions? I’ve seen photos of Myrtos Beach and Melissani Cave, which look stunning. Are they worth the hype? Any hidden gems you'd recommend that aren't overly touristy?

I’m also interested in local experiences—like wineries, small tavernas, walking trails, or cultural sites. Thank you!

Traditional Dishes to Try in Kefalonia?

Hi everyone! I'm heading to Kefalonia soon and super excited to explore the island’s food scene. I’ve heard there are some amazing local dishes unique to Kefalonia, and I want to make sure I don’t miss out on the most traditional ones.

So far, I’ve seen people mention kreatopita (meat pie), and I’m curious about other authentic things to try — whether it’s main dishes, desserts, or street food. I love trying regional specialties when I travel and would rather eat what the locals eat than stick to touristy menus.

Are there any specific dishes that are only found on Kefalonia? Any tavernas or bakeries that serve amazing local food? I'd also love tips on what to pair with a glass of Robola wine!

Thanks so much — I’m building my must-eat list now and would love your suggestions!

Lixouri for a vacation apartment?

I’m planning a trip to Kefalonia next summer with a big group — family and close friends, around 8–10 people total — and we’re thinking of renting a large vacation apartment or villa. Lixouri keeps popping up as an option, but I don’t know much about it beyond being across the bay from Argostoli.

Is Lixouri a good base for a group stay? We’d love to be somewhere with an authentic Greek feel, good local tavernas, walkable areas, and easy access to beaches. We’ll have a few cars, so driving to other parts of the island isn’t a problem, but we don’t want to feel too isolated either.

For anyone who’s stayed there — what’s your impression of Lixouri? Peaceful and charming or a bit too quiet? Would you recommend it for a larger group vacation?

Tips for Driving on Kefalonia?

I’ve been to Kefalonia several times and absolutely love the island, but oddly enough, I’ve never actually driven there myself. This summer I’m considering renting a car so I can explore a bit more freely, especially some of the smaller villages and the harder-to-reach beaches, but I keep hearing mixed things about the roads.

For those of you who’ve driven in Kefalonia, how challenging is it really? I know there are some steep mountain routes and narrow coastal roads, but are they manageable for someone who’s a decent driver but not used to tight switchbacks? Any tips for navigating the island safely, times of day to avoid, particular routes that are easier for beginners, parking advice, or things you wish you’d known beforehand?

I’d love to finally try driving there, but I want to make sure I’m prepared before booking the car.

Driving Advice in Kefalonia?

I’m of Greek descent and visit Greece almost every year, so I’m no stranger to renting a car and getting around. but I’ve never driven in Kefalonia before. I’m thinking about making the trip next summer, though it’s not 100% decided yet, and I’m wondering what to expect.

I’ve heard that Kefalonia has some narrow, winding mountain roads, especially around Myrtos Beach and heading toward Assos. Is it really challenging to drive there, or is it manageable if you take it slow? How are the road conditions overall? Are there plenty of signs in English as well as Greek?

Also, what’s parking like in popular areas such as Fiskardo, Argostoli, and near the major beaches? I’m used to village driving on the mainland, but islands can be different.
