I’ve recently been exploring Greek cuisine and have fallen in love with its rich flavors and variety. I’m particularly interested in learning more about Greek pasta dishes. So far, I’ve tried pastitsio, and it was amazing—like a Greek take on lasagna with those layers of pasta, meat sauce, and béchamel. But I’m curious to know what other traditional Greek pasta dishes are out there.

Are there any lesser-known pasta recipes that are a must-try? I’m especially interested in dishes that feature unique Greek ingredients or regional specialties. I’d also love any tips on making these dishes at home—like specific types of pasta to use or any special techniques that bring out the best flavors.

If you have favorite recipes, suggestions on where to find authentic ingredients, or any cooking tips, please share! Can’t wait to hear your recommendations.
 
Greek spaghetti ! Good butter ( I get from a local farm ) , grated kefalotiri ( or a Romano/ Parmesan blend ) and cinnamon . Sprinkle half of the kefalotiri generously on the bottom of a platter , cook your pasta . While the pasta is cooking , start your brown butter sauce . After the butter ( one whole stick ) is melted and it starts to bubble up , add the grated cheese a little bit at a time so it can crisp up , use a fork to scrape from the bottom the pan , careful that you don't burn the butter . Drain the pasta and place on the platter , sprinkle more grated cheese and sprinkle with cinnamon . When you feel like you have enough crispy cheese in the brown butter and carefully pour over the pasta . You'll hear it sizzle if you did it correctly . Don't be discouraged at first , you'll get it . Serve with keftedes and a nice simple Greek salad . Has always been a favorite at our home.

Tips for Eating Seafood in Greece

I’m a huge seafood lover and I’ve always been impressed by how Greeks in Greece prepare their seafood – simple, fresh, and flavorful! I’m heading to Greece soon and want to make the most of the seafood scene while I’m there. The only problem is, I’m not too familiar with the types of fish commonly served in Greece. I’ve heard of octopus and calamari, but beyond that, I’m a bit lost when it comes to knowing which fish to try.

What are some must-try fish and seafood dishes in Greece? Are there certain types that are especially good in specific regions? Also, any tips on how they’re prepared or what to look out for on the menu would be really helpful.

Lastly, if anyone has suggestions for great seafood tavernas or hidden spots, I’d love to hear them.

What are your favorite Greek ladera dishes?

I really love how simple yet flavorful they are! The rich use of olive oil combined with fresh vegetables and herbs is such a perfect combination. So far, I’ve tried fasolakia (green beans in olive oil and tomato) and briam (baked vegetable medley), and both were delicious.

I’d love to hear from others—what are your favorite ladera dishes? Are there any unique or lesser-known recipes I should try? I’m also curious about any tips for cooking them to get the most flavor. For example, is there a secret to getting the vegetables to absorb the olive oil and herbs better, or does the dish get better after sitting for a day or two?

I’ve recently started experimenting with capers in my cooking, and I know they’re used quite a bit in Greek cuisine, especially in dishes from the islands. I love their briny, tangy flavor, but I’m still trying to figure out the best ways to incorporate them into my Greek dishes.

Does anyone have tips on how to use capers effectively in Greek cooking? I’ve seen them in recipes like Greek salads, fish dishes, and even in some sauces, but I’d love to know more specific dishes where they really shine. Should I rinse them first to reduce the saltiness, or is it better to keep that intense flavor?

This is something I noticed in Greece in the islands - that capers are somewhat common.

I love Greek street food and I understand pita is one of the common ones. Are there any regional variations or lesser-known pita dishes that I should try?

I’d love to hear about any unique fillings or combinations that go beyond the typical pork or chicken with tzatziki. Do some places offer vegetarian or even vegan versions with different spreads or veggies? Also, I’ve heard about something called pita me kavourma—is that common, and what exactly is it?

Lastly, any tips on the best way to enjoy these pita delights—specific condiments, sauces, or ways to assemble them? Looking forward to trying something new and expanding my Greek street food knowledge. Thanks for any recommendations!

Unique Greek Dishes to Make for a Party

We all know about the common Greek dishes that do well for crowds, like souvlaki, tiro pita, spanakopita, even pastitsio or moussaka. I tend to rotate through the same common list of dishes.

I have a dinner party coming up and I want some ideas on how to mix it up. Can you think of anything unique or lesser known that I can make? I don't mind if it's time consuming - I am up for anything really.

I had a friend tell me that maybe I want to make a leg of lamb or something like that - and I don't want to do something like that for now because that is also a common dish for me. I am, however, considering kleftiko for the main course.

Any advice is welcome.
