Has anyone on this forum gotten baptized as an adult? I would love to learn more about the experience and what it has been like for everyone. I know everyone's religious journey can be different and their reasons for getting baptized vary. Many people that I have met have gotten baptized in order to marry their significant other while others have fallen in love with the Greek orthodox religion. This is something I am considering but I am not fully sure about which direction I want to go in and would love to hear from others before I make this next big step.

Yes, both my son-in-law and I got baptized in the G.O.C. It was full out dunking for me, similar to the scene in My Big Fat Greek Wedding. When our kids were born, we knew we wanted to raise them Christian but we’re unsure of which church to commit to. After several discussions with different clergy, we selected the GOC near our house. I converted after 10 years of marriage and my oldest was 4. We then got remarried in the GOC.

I was baptized as an infant, but I love hearing people's stories of converting. Thank you for sharing!

Do you have anything to add t this list? #3 - find your latest alike - really caught my eye. I am a photographer so this is a work/play type of trip and I bet I can get some great slice of life shots there.

Resources for Orthodox Christian Religious Fasting?

This past year, I have started taking fasting a lot more seriously. I used to just fast off and on during lent, but I have since learned that fasting is a constant thing. One thing I have noticed is that I struggle a bit to find food to eat, or to know what to do. This is a resource that I find helpful - I am curious if you guys know of anything that can help me:

Translating a few lines from English to Greek

Can anyone possibly help me translate a few lines into Greek? I used to be able to read and write Greek when I was a child, but these days I can barely read at all.

I have a few lines of Greek dialogue in a book I'm writing, and even though Google Translate does a reasonable job of translating English to Greek, from what I can make out, the translation doesn't look correct in the way a normal Greek would casually say the words - the translation just looks a little too formal. Could someone possibly take a look for me - it would only take a few minutes to read through the 3 - 4 lines?

Thanks

Learning About Greek Orthodox Religion

I am of Dominican descent and my husband and I had an Orthodox wedding, but I didn't convert. I want to learn about the religion more to better connect with him and his side of the family ... what types of things should I look at? I found this link online and found it informative. How should I learn about Greek Orthodox?

Greek Wedding Traditions for Weddings in Greece?

I am in research mode. My wedding is next year and I feel like I am behind. I am not Greek or an Orthodox Christian, but I love Greece and the culture. Are there any traditions that it might be fun if I incorporate into the ceremony or the celebrations? I am not sure where to start!
