This museum is lesser known but I've heard amazing things from friends who have visited! There is a very interesting exhibit that is currently being put on titled "Visualizing humanity." It is the first project by the Network of Contemporary Culture Museums of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports. I really would love to visit this exhibit since it showcases the phases of life and culture, mainly inspired by important moments in Greek history. There are four "chapters" in the exhibition, my favorite concept (whiteout seeing it of course) is Feels Like Home. :)

I haven't heard of it, but I agree that the museum, and the exhibit, both look worthwhile. Do you know i fit is Greek Culture and History in a general sense, or is it specific to Thessaloniki and Macedonia?

That is neat! It sounds like something I should put on my list the next time I am in Thessaloniki.

What are the best day trips from Thessaloniki?

I’ve been wanting to visit Thessaloniki for a while now, but of course I can’t visit a city without hitting the beach right after! Are there any good day trips from the island that people recommend?

Thessaloniki as a honeymoon or wedding destination...

Someone in my wedding party suggested I look into Thessaloniki as a possible wedding and/or honeymoon destination. What do you guys all think? I have never been - but it seems to have much of what I am looking for - beaches, history, night life, the crowds are healthy but not completely crazy in the peak of the summer (which is when the wedding might be)... How are the beaches? How is the nightlife?

Guided tour in an historic church of Thessaloniki for free!

A few (even Thessalonians...) are familiar with one of the most historic parishes of the city, the church of St Athanasius the Great (87 Egnatias str.). Guided tours are offered every Wednesday at 10:30 and 11:00 am (FOR FREE)! You can see details in the announcements hung outside the church. It's a unique opportunity to learn about Orthodox art and spirituality, as well as the history of the city, while listening to heavenly Byzantine music recordings. Although the facade may not look so attractive, the interior is stunning! You visit not only the nave, but also the north chapel, as well as the gallery. Looking for a different experience in an historic and not over-crowded landmark? That's your place!

What does everyone like about Thessaloniki?

Thessaloniki is one of the most unique places in Greece! Its way better than Athens in my opinion, it has everything that a big city has to offer but it also has a small town and waterfront vibe. Do you agree with what was said in the video? Or do you have your own perceptions about what is good and bad about the city? Let me know!

First Time in Thessaloniki - What to Do?

I have been to Athens plenty of times but never Thessaloniki. I am trying to nail down an itinerary for the next time I am in Greece. I have never been to Thessaloniki! What is a good list of things to see and do while I am here? I started my research:

** Ladadika District - Because it seems kinda neat....
** Archaeological Museum - I love this kind of thing!
** White Tower - seems like an iconic landmark?
