I’m thinking about planning a more active vacation in Greece next year, something different from the usual beach-and-island-hopping trip — and I’d love some advice from people who have actually explored Greece’s hiking side. I keep hearing that the country has some incredible trails, from coastal paths to mountain routes to old stone footpaths connecting villages, but I’m not sure where to start.

If you’ve hiked in Greece, what were your favorite trails? Are there specific regions that really stand out for outdoor lovers, places like Crete, Zagori, Pelion, Naxos, or the Peloponnese? I’m open to everything: multi-hour hikes, easier scenic walks, or even multi-day routes if they’re worth the effort.

Also, how is trail signage, and do most hikers use apps or local guides? Thanks in advance!

I have done quite a bit of hiking in Greece. Can recommend Andros for some great multi hour treks, all very well marked.
Crete, sections of the E4 are beautiful plus all the gorges...
Peloponnese - Menalon Trail is a beautiful multi day hike and well supported. The E4 also runs north to south the length of the Peloponnese.
Kythera is another island to consider.
Happy to answer any questions. Feel free to reach out.
Fantastic way to explore Greece.

I love this idea because Greece really shines once you step off the beach and into the landscape. I’ve done hiking in a few regions, and Zagori immediately stands out if you love dramatic scenery, stone bridges, deep gorges, and village-to-village paths that feel timeless. The trails there feel purposeful, like they were made to be walked for centuries, not just for recreation.

Crete is another favorite, especially if you like variety. One day you’re in a gorge, the next you’re walking high plateaus or coastal paths with unreal views. Pelion surprised me too—lush, shaded trails that feel almost alpine, with cobblestone paths linking villages. You can find these walks basically anywhere but my favorite all time hike in Greece was the Samaria Gorge.

I recently went on a hiking trip in Greece, and Mt. Olympus completely blew me away — the views were unforgettable. I also spent time around Chania in Crete, hiking through mountains and wandering tiny villages; I even stumbled upon a local farm, which was such a cool, authentic experience. Most of the popular trails were easy to follow, but in quieter areas I definitely found having a map or app helped. I also did a multi-day hike in Zagori, and honestly, the scenery there stayed with me long after I got home.

Favorite small towns in Greece?

I realized recently that some of my favorite places in Greece haven’t actually been the major destinations everyone talks about, but smaller towns that just had a completely different atmosphere to them.

Sometimes it’s a mountain village with one main square and old stone houses, other times it’s a tiny coastal town where everyone seems to know each other and life moves slower. A few of the places I still think about most weren’t even places I had originally planned to visit.

I’m curious what small towns or villages have really stayed with people after traveling in Greece. Could be because of the scenery, the food, the people, the history, or just the overall feeling of the place.

Would love to hear everyone’s favorites, especially places that don’t always make the typical travel lists.

Festivals of Note for 2026 in Greece?

My family and I are starting to think about a possible trip to Greece in 2026, and this time we’re considering planning part of the trip around a festival or cultural celebration. We’ve been to Greece before, but we’ve never really organized a trip around a specific event.

I know Greece has so many interesting traditions throughout the year. Because of that, I’m starting to gather ideas early while we figure out where we might want to go.

Have any of you traveled to Greece specifically to experience a festival? If so, which ones would you recommend? It could be religious celebrations, food festivals, music events, or local village festivals.
I’d love to hear about any memorable festival experiences that might help us shape our 2026 plans.

Ferry vs flying between islands, what’s better?

I’ve always been a ferry guy when it comes to Greece, something about pulling into a port and seeing the island come into view just feels right. But this trip is a little different because I’m traveling with someone who gets pretty motion sick, so now I’m seriously considering flying between islands instead.

Curious what you guys think, ferry vs flying, what’s actually better?

I know ferries are part of the whole island-hopping experience, and they’re usually more flexible, but I’ve also had a couple rough rides when the water wasn’t calm. On the flip side, flights seem quicker and smoother, but maybe more hassle overall.

If you’ve done both, what would you recommend, especially in a situation like this? Is flying the smarter move, or are ferries still worth it if you plan carefully?

Which Black Limo Service in Miami, Florida, Is Ideal for Travelers from Greece?

I’m visiting Miami, USA, from Greece for my best friend’s late-night birthday celebration, and I’m looking for a reliable black limo service in Miami, Florida. Since I’m not familiar with local providers, safety, punctuality, and professional chauffeurs are very important to me, especially for night travel. I’ve heard a few local names mentioned, including sallimoservice, but I’m unsure how consistent the real experiences are. I’d appreciate genuine recommendations from anyone who has used a black limo service in Miami for similar occasions.

Best food towns to visit in Greece?

I’ve started realizing that some of my favorite memories from Greece are connected to food more than anything else. Little tavernas, bakeries, seafood by the water, village meals that seemed simple but tasted incredible. It’s making me think that next time I go to Greece, I’d love to plan at least part of the trip around food.

I’m not fully sure yet if I’ll be going this summer, but I’ve been daydreaming about possible places to visit. What towns or regions in Greece do you think are especially great for food lovers?

I’d love recommendations for places known for traditional cooking, local specialties, seafood, baked goods, or just amazing tavernas in general. Islands, mainland towns, mountain villages — all recommendations are welcome.

Would especially love hearing about places that felt authentic and memorable rather than overly touristy.
