I know there are some pretty wild and crazy Greek mythology stories that involve incest, murder, and even worse. I'm super curious to see what everyone's favourite and most wild story is. If you are able to share links of the full story, please do. I know some of them can be very complicated and long so I don't want to make you spend forever explaining them in the threads LOL.

There are so many crazy stories. Maybe the 12 Labors of Hercules or anything that involves Medusa or the Minotaur?

Not the wildest but, for me, the most problematic one: PHERECYDES OF SYROS, 6th cent. B.C.: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pherecydes_of_Syros
His cosmogony starts with three pinciples: Zas [Zeus], ChthoniE [Earth], and Chronos [Time]. All 3 are personified, yet what is it for time to exist as such? Only Heidegger has tackled this issue in his SEIN UND ZEIT, but he failed to deal with ZEIT/TIME. // To God all things are possible, said Gabriel to Mary. By the same mythological thinking, it was possible for Time to generate offsprings just by masturbating.

Who was Homer really?

I didn't know whether to put this in history or mythology and chose mythology because of the stories he told.

Who was Homer really? I honestly can't find much. He is listed as the "presumed" author of the Iliad and Odyssey, and no on knows where he is from or anything. I have heard different theories, that Homer was actually multiple people, etc. What do you guys think?

The Muses of Greek Mythology?

I have been studying more about Greek mythology lately and I bumped into information about the Muses. It seems like there is some conflicting information, especially regarding their names and functions. It could just be that there's not a lot online.

Can anyone recommend a good source to get Information about them, or maybe even a book I can read?

Hera Seems More Complex Than We Realize

One goddess in Greek Mythology that has always intrigued me is Hera. I mean, it always seemed to me like Zeus put her through A LOT.

Every now and then we bump into Hera lashing out. She did that with Hercules. But I also realized that there's more to the story. After he became a full God, it seems like they had a good relationship.

So perhaps there is more to Hera than meets the eye? What do you guys think?

Greek God of Fire Relationship

I have a question for all you mythology aficionados...

The Greek God of Fire, Hephaestus, is not really talked about in Greek mythology.

I didn't know until recently that he was the husband of Aphrodite!? She seems to overpower him in the "relationship".

Is there any information about their relationship out there? I can't find anything...

Favorite Greek Mythological Story?

I love reading about Greek Mythology. Even though this isn't a part what Greece is today, I feel that knowing these stories is a way to honor the Ancient Greeks.

I have a few favorites - what are your favorites?

  • The tragic story of Medusa
  • The 12 Labors of Hercules
  • Anything related to the Minotaur
  • The Golden Fleece
