Is a week enough in Kefalonia?

I'm thinking about planning a trip to Kefalonia and was wondering if a week is enough time to get a good feel for the island. I don't necessarily need to see absolutely everything, but I'd like enough time to explore without feeling like I'm constantly rushing from place to place.

I'd definitely want to visit some of the well-known spots like Myrtos Beach, Assos, Fiskardo, Melissani Cave, and Argostoli. I'd also like time for a few slower beach days, meals at local tavernas, and maybe some wandering through smaller villages.

For those who have been, does seven days feel like a comfortable amount of time? Would renting a car make it realistic to see a good variety of the island during that time?

I'm also curious if you'd recommend staying in one place for the whole week or splitting the trip between two different areas.

I think a week is enough time to get a really good feel for Kefalonia, especially if you rent a car. The island is fairly large, so having your own transportation makes it much easier to visit places like Myrtos Beach, Assos, Fiskardo, Melissani Cave, and Argostoli without depending on tours or bus schedules.

Seven days should also give you enough room to slow down a little rather than turning the trip into constant sightseeing. I’d probably plan a few bigger exploring days and then leave a couple of days open for beaches, long lunches, and wandering through villages.

For a one-week trip, I think staying in one central area can work well, especially around Argostoli or Lassi. If you really want to experience both the north and south more deeply, though, splitting the stay between two areas could save some driving and give the trip a slightly different feel.
