One of the most common things I've heard about Santorini is that it is great for sightseeing and walking around but it is not that great for beaches and swimming. I've heard that the beaches are also hard to get to and are usually at the bottom of a cliff...that being said, does it make sense to get a beachfront hotel in Santorini? Is it true that the beaches aren't that great? Im wondering how much of my time I will actually spend at the beach. Looking forward to replies...thanks!

Unless you’re looking for beach-focused-only vacation, my answer would be no. The most unique features of Santorini are the topography, view, and archeological digs. The beaches offer the same exquisite water, but are quite varied from red/black sand, pebbles, to jumping off the rocks. I would opt for accommodation on the Caldera either in Fira or Oia. That way you would always have the view and quick access to the Fira - Oia cliffside walk which is particularly spectacular in the early morning as mist rises from the Caldera or at sunset. Many cliffside hotels offer either a private/semi-private pool - but if too expensive for what you want to spend - I would recommend an in-town hotel like the
Aressana Spa Hotel which offers a swimming pool and quick access to the town, nightlife, and caldera view. Day trips to the villages, digs, Therasia and beaches are quite easy.

I agree with Deborah... the beachfront hotels tend to feel kind of isolating. I would consider getting a cliffside hotel with a pool - it's the best of both worlds. If you want a beach vacation, I am not sure Santorini is the best island for you. Maybe Mykonos or even Crete in that case?

Hotel in Santorini with a view like this?

My wife and I are going to Santorini soon. We usually stay with people, but they don't live on the caldera like this.

I thought it would be a nice treat to stay somewhere for a few days that his this kind of a view!

I know there are some great caldera-perched places in Oia. I know they're expensive but they seem worth it.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Best places for photographs in Santorini?

I am going to Santorini again this year and I am on the lookout breathtaking photo spots in Santorini, and we need your insights! Help us pinpoint the ultimate locations for capturing the island's charm.

What are your favorite places to take photos? I have a few photos snapped of the Oia sunset from other trips. For this trip, I want to capture some different things, and maybe even some slice of life moments.

Advice on galleries to visit in Fira?

I heard that Santorini is a great place for artists and people who admire art. I will be in Santorini for a cruise stop soon, but I will only have time to explore Fira.

I'm planning a trip to the beautiful island of Santorini and, as an enthusiastic art lover, I'm eager to immerse myself in the local art scene. Fira, with its stunning caldera views and charming streets, is on my travel itinerary, and I would love to explore some art galleries while I'm there.

From what I've gathered, Santorini, and Fira in particular, is a hub for vibrant art, showcasing everything from contemporary pieces by local artists to ancient artifacts that narrate the island's rich history. However, with such a plethora of options, it's a bit overwhelming to choose where to start.

Anyone have any advice?

Iconic Dress Photo on Santorini

I love the photos I see of people who are wearing that beautiful flowing dress, and the photo is taken with the backdrop of the gorgeous island.

I love the photo and want to do one for myself.

How can I do this? I heard that it is actually a business? Does anyone have any details?

Oia Santorini Sunset Cruise

I found this video of a sunset cruise in Oia on Santorini and I am intrigued! I'll share the video, and I am curious if any of you have tried this. I had a terrible experience fighting for a standing spot last time I was in Oia.
