I am thinking of going to Mykonos again next ear. I’ve been a few times and love the classic beaches like Ornos and Elia, but this summer I’m thinking of exploring the quieter northern side, specifically Fokos and Mersini.

I’ve heard they’re more remote, less organized, and without the beach clubs or crowds, which honestly sounds perfect for a peaceful day. But I’m wondering if they’re really worth the drive (and the rougher road). Are they truly beautiful and unspoiled, or just isolated for the sake of being different?

If you’ve been, what’s the vibe like? Is there any shade or a taverna nearby, or do you need to bring everything with you? I’m fine with rustic if the sea and scenery are amazing. Would love to hear whether you’d make the trip north again or stick with the more accessible beaches.

I’ve been to both Fokos and Mersini, and they’re absolutely worth the trip if you’re craving the quieter side of Mykonos. The drive is a bit rough, especially the last stretch, but once you get there, it feels like a completely different island. Fokos has this wild, untouched beauty with deep blue water and dramatic hills around it. There’s a lovely taverna right by the beach (Fokos Taverna) that serves amazing local dishes and feels wonderfully authentic.

Mersini, on the other hand, is even more remote—no taverna, no umbrellas, just sand, rocks, and that raw Aegean energy. Bring water, snacks, and shade if you plan to stay a while.

The vibe at both is peaceful and natural, perfect for swimming, reading, or just escaping the crowds. If you love the feeling of being far away from it all, you’ll adore them.

Is it worth visiting the far north beaches like Fokos or Mersini?

What's the Beach in Mykonos?

I visited Mykonos a few years ago and had the most amazing time—but now I’m trying to plan a return trip, and I can’t for the life of me remember the name of one particular beach I loved.

It had a relaxed vibe, not too crazy with the party scene, and there was a taverna right on the beach that served grilled fish and wine. I remember the sand was soft, the water was crystal clear, and it wasn’t packed like Paradise or Super Paradise. I think there might’ve been sunbeds, but it still felt low-key and not too commercial.

Does this ring a bell for anyone? Maybe Ornos? Agios Ioannis? Or could it have been Agios Sostis? I wish I had taken better notes, ha!

If you’ve been to Mykonos recently and have suggestions for chill beaches with great food nearby, I’d love to hear your favorites too. Thanks in advance!

Snorkeling in Mykonos Tips?

I’m thinking about visiting Mykonos next summer, likely in mid-July, and while I know the island is famous for its nightlife, that’s not really my scene. I’m more interested in outdoor activities, and snorkeling is high on my list.

Has anyone here gone snorkeling in Mykonos? Are there particular beaches or coves that are especially good for clear water and interesting marine life? I’ve read that some of the quieter beaches might have better conditions than the busy party spots, but I’m not sure which ones are worth prioritizing.

Do most people rent gear on the island, or is it better to bring your own mask and fins? Also, are there guided snorkeling tours that combine boat trips to less accessible areas?

Mykonos Okay to Visit in March?

A friend recently asked me whether Mykonos is a good place to visit in March, and I realized I don’t have a great answer, even though I’ve been there before. My experience with Mykonos has only been in the height of summer, when everything is open, busy, and very much in full swing.

I’m curious how the island feels in early spring. I assume it’s much quieter, but does that make it enjoyable or does it feel too closed down? Are restaurants, cafés, and shops still operating, even at a reduced level? Is it more of a peaceful, local experience, or does it feel like a place waiting for the season to start?

My friend isn’t necessarily looking for nightlife, but does want good food, nice walks, and a sense of atmosphere. I’d love to hear from anyone who has visited Mykonos in March—or lives there year-round—about what to realistically expect that time of year.

Which month has the worse wind in Mykonos in the summer?

I might go to Mykonos next year, and the only thing giving me pause is the wind. I know the island is famous for the meltemi, but I keep reading completely different opinions about when it’s at its strongest. Some people say July is brutal, others say August is worse, and a few claim June can surprise you too.

For those of you who’ve been to Mykonos multiple times — or who go every summer — which month have you personally experienced as the windiest? I don’t mind a breeze, but I do want a trip where I can actually enjoy the beaches without getting sandblasted every five minutes.

Is there a month where the meltemi is consistently the strongest, or is it totally unpredictable year to year? Would love to hear your experiences and what you’d recommend!
