Planning a trip to Rhodes and trying to decide how to experience Lindos. I’ve seen people recommend both a quick day trip and staying overnight, and I’m curious what others think.

On one hand, Lindos seems compact enough to see in a few hours, like to see the Acropolis, village streets, a swim, lunch, then move on. On the other, photos of the village in the early morning or after day-trippers leave make it look like a completely different place.

For those who’ve been, did staying overnight add something meaningful to your experience? Was it quieter, more atmospheric, or easier to enjoy the town without crowds? Or did you feel a day trip was more than enough?

I’d love to hear what you’d recommend, especially if you’ve done both. Season, budget, and travel style probably change the answer for everyone.

I left the UK in 2009 to retire . so have been on rhodes 17 years. only went to lindos once .did not climb to acropois. parts on the path have slippery stone steps & no had rail . the italians did restoration many years ago . where there were stone pillars they just used concrete.found it very expensive for food and drinks.in faliraki a friend bought a 3 litre of ouzo on a metal stand and a tap . cost 38.50 euros. went to the supermarket at krana a month later and exactly the same thing 81,50 euros .yes eighty one and a half euros. lindos gets very busy in summer .i have seen over 30 coaches and hundreds of cars parked at krana

I’ve done Lindos both as a day trip and with an overnight stay, and honestly they felt like two completely different experiences. The day trip version is definitely doable, you can see the Acropolis, wander the white streets, swim at St. Paul’s Bay, and have a nice meal in a few hours. But it can feel very crowded, especially midday in peak season.

Staying overnight added something special for me. Early morning before the tour buses arrive, the village is quiet, almost serene, and you can actually appreciate the architecture and views without rushing. Evenings were my favorite, after sunset when most visitors leave, Lindos feels more like a lived-in village again. Rooftop dinners with the Acropolis lit up were memorable.

If your schedule allows and the budget works, I’d recommend at least one night. But if you’re short on time, a well-planned day trip still gives you a great taste.

What Happened to the Colossus of Rhodes?

I’ve been reading about Colossus of Rhodes and realized I don’t actually know what happened to it. I know it was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and that it stood somewhere near the harbor in Rhodes, but beyond that, the details are a bit fuzzy for me.

Did it collapse because of an earthquake? And if so, what happened to the remains afterward? I’ve heard different versions—some say it stayed in pieces for a long time, others say it was eventually removed or sold off.

Also, is there any real evidence of exactly where it stood, or is that still debated? Curious to hear what people know or have learned, especially if you’ve visited Rhodes and seen any related sites or history in person.

How do I start using a manual concrete mixer efficiently for DIY projects?

Picked up a manual concrete mixer for some weekend DIY stuff, but wow, I'm realizing I have no clue if I'm using it in a smart way or just wasting energy. I figured it would be simple, but the mix keeps coming out lumpy or too soupy, and I'm starting to feel like the weak link here is... me. If anyone has tips on getting a smooth mix, pacing myself, or just not making a giant mess every time, I'd love to hear it. I really want to get better at this before I start my patio project.

What do you love most about Rhodes?

I’ve been reading about Rhodes lately, and the more I learn, the more it seems like a place that offers a little bit of everything. The island has such an interesting mix of history, beaches, beautiful villages, and great food. The Old Town alone looks incredible, with its medieval streets, stone buildings, and all that history around every corner.

At the same time, people talk a lot about the beaches, the clear water, and places like Lindos with its white houses and views of the acropolis. It seems like Rhodes manages to balance culture, scenery, and relaxation really well.

For those of you who have visited, what stands out the most when you think back on your trip? Was it a specific place, like a beach or village, or more the overall atmosphere of the island?

I’d love to hear what made Rhodes special for you and what left the biggest impression.
