What is there to do in the off season? Im thinking of taking a trip in October but I'm not sure if it is going to be fun or not. I know that it will probably be too cold to swim, sadly

One of the most popular and enchanting tourist destinations for international travelers is Crete, the largest island in Greece. Crete is a various land filled with historical ruins, humming towns and breathtaking beaches. Many humans come right here for the sun, sea and sand but the pleasant activities in Crete consist of lots greater than the usual bundle vacation. I am pretty much sure, you will feel something I am unable to explain.

What specifically can one do in the fall though? I know that most Greek islands are known for beach vacations in the summer

Crete is fantastic in the Fall! Most tavernas will be open through October. The water is warm so people often swim right into November. With heat waves over, the skies will be clear blue. Many people hike the gorges and mountains during this time. Crete has exceptional beauty, history, and hospitality. With the tourist crowds diminishing, you’ll be warmly welcomed and I guarantee that you’ll make many new friends and memories to last a lifetime. There is so much to do, depending on your interests…..rent a car and explore the countryside, museums, boat trips……really it’s up to you!

I didn't know you could go olive/grape picking. Do you have to arrange with a farm to do this? Or are there public areas where you can go and roam around?

You can visit the Litsarda Olive Farm or go talk with Stelios in Ntounias Taverna and Farm and I am sure they can let you help and then enjoy the fruits of your labour...literally!

I have been to Crete six times, and four of these have been in October. Everything is open, you can do everything you would during the peak tourist season. The weather is delightful and is still beach weather. The only difference is that it isn't as crowded and busy as it would have been in July or August, the prices are a bit better, and it is isn't as scorching. I experienced clear skies and temperatures at about the mid 80s Fahrenheit.

Talented Greek singers and dancers in Crete!

These Cretan dancers are putting on a traditional show! As you will see in the video, these costumes, the music and dancing is all traditional and from the island of Crete. You will probably be able to find some restaurants that provide traditional cretin music and potentially some dancing. I highly recommend attending a live performance for anyone who is trying to learn more about Cretan culture.

Imbros Gorge is a beautiful part of Cretes natural beauty

Crete has some of the most beautiful natural beauty in all of Greece!! Imbros Gorge is a trail that almost reaches 8 kilometres and it is a bit easier to hike than Samaria gorge. You can always take a tour if you are unsure about where to go and if you are scared to get lost. Tours are also a great way to learn more about the history of the island and get to know a bit more from the locals. Cretans are very hospitable and love to sit down with you and drink some raki.

Visiting Psychro Cave in Crete, also known as Zeus Cave

This is what the Zeus cave looks like in Crete. Ancient Greek mythology claims that this is where the ancient Greek god Zeus was born. Because of this, many many tourists flock from around the world to visit this cave. The cave is also revered as very special because there are many rare and valuable stones found within it such as amethyst. Here is a video clip that shows you the inside of the cave, if you are ever planning to visit.

Potamos beach in Malia harbor Crete is a quiet escape

Potamos beach is a very small beach in Malia Harbor. The beach is great because there aren't many organize beach clubs, meaning that you're able to just come to the beach with your own towels and umbrellas and stay for free. There are usually people walking around selling things, and you can always walk by it's the nearest store to pick up some cold bottle drinks. I highly recommend speech if you're looking for something more low-key and quiet.

What do you need to know before visiting Chania, Crete!

When you're visiting Chania, I personally recommend sticking around the city. The restaurants are fantastic and it's also a city that's right by the water so you'll be able to go to the beach whenever you like. The nightlife is also pretty great, and there's really talented musicians who play live music in the summertime. This video outlines everything about the city perfectly. If you've been, drop some recommendations in the comments!
