I am on an active process to learn more about Greek Orthodoxy - it has been my project for the past year. I am having a hard time tracking down resources. Does anyone have an y books to recommend?

I have read so far:

Thinking Orthodox - Eugenia Constantinou

Orthodox Study Bible

Welcome to the Orthodox Church - Frederica Matthews Green

Thanks!

You can also read the catechism of St. Philaret Metropolitan of Moscow (remember that the term "Greek Orthodoxy" has to do with a cultural and administrative separation from other Eastern Orthodox Churches, not a dogmatic one) and the book "What is Orthodoxy?" by Petros Botsis.

That's a good point - it's Orthodox Christianity - and there are plenty of great resources outside of the Greek Culture where one can learn. For example, Ancient Faith Ministries isn't just for Greek Orthodox and the have some great resources.

Gifts for visiting people in Greece ideas

I am visiting Greece this summer and will be staying with people. I want to give them a gift of appreciation! Is this something that is customary? If so, what should I give? They are friends that I met on vacation once, and we kept in touch. They stayed with me for a bit a few years ago and brought some wine from Greece. They didn't have to do that but was happy they made the gesture. Any ideas besides wine?

Gift at a Greek Wedding in Canada?

The couple is originally from Greece - the family only just came ten years ago. They are young, but the family holds to Greek traditions. The wedding is in Canada because that is where they settled.

I have sorted out what to wear, no I need insight as to what to give the couple! They actually don't even have a registry.

Fasting or Giving Something Up for Lent

Orthodox Christian Lent started today... I am curious - what do people here do for it? Many people I know "give something up" other people "Fast" according to the prescribed church fast.

I am not sure what I want to do this year. It is hard following the fast, but also not too bad because I don't eat a lot of meat.. I might want to do something that feels a bit more personal...

Etiquette and what wear to a Greek wedding?

I am scheduled to go to a Greek wedding in a few months and I am trying to figure out the etiquette of what to wear. It is a Greek-Canadian wedding, fairly traditional in a Greek church with a reception after. Both the bride and groom are Greek-Canadian.

I need advice for wardrobe for men and women, as well as kids. The wedding is in the afternoon, the reception at night. The wedding is in early June. There are no instructions on the invitation on how to dress.

Good Place to Find Greek Music?

I love to listen to Greek music. I usually just find music and playlists on YouTube but I am starting to get bored with what I can find there. Do you have any suggestions on where I can go to find free Greek music to stream? I like modern Greek music better than the old stuff, but honestly I like to listen to both kinds of Greek music.
