I am a percussionist (hand drumming) and usually when I jam out with other Greek musicians, I usually play the bongos.

I decided that I want to learn the traditional Greek hand drums but the problem is, I don't know what the drums are called and where I can get one. I looked online but since I don't know what I am searching for, I couldn't find anything.

Not sure I would need lessons, but it would be nice to also have access to a resource that can show me some beats, or find a local musician.

I have found some of these drums on Amazon but they seem expensive. I think you are better off finding a local Greek band and asking where they typically get their traditional percussion. Not sure I would trust an online vendor and would love to play it online.

Greek Festival Season is Here!

I just wanted to share that I am so excited that Greek festival season is here! I tend to travel visiting family and friends throughout the United States and Canada during the warm weather time of year, for weddings and stuff. I have family in a few different places so have caught festivals all over the place.

One of my favorites is the Greek Summerfest in July in Vancouver. I also went to a big Greek festival in Chicago that I loved. Where is your favorite? I might want to visit!

National holidays in Greece with history?

I have been researching about Greek history and culture lately. Recently, I spent some time learning about the events surrounding Greek Independence Day and thought the research was very satisfying.

I would love to repeat it! Are there any national holidays in Greece coming up that point to events in history? If so, what should I pay attention to and what should I research?

What to bring to church as a godparent during Christening?

I am so excited, I have just been asked to be a godmother. I know generally what is expected but I am trying to sort it all out. What is it that godparents need to bring to the Christening? I know that the priest usually provides a list but I want to start getting ahead of it. With Easter just behind us, I don't know how long it will be until I get the list. The Christening isn't for a few months, but I know that the church seems to be a bit behind and I have no idea how long it will be until I get the list!

Learning Greek Dances

Does anyone know of any good resources for learning Greek dances? I looked on YouTube - there are some tutorials but not for all the dances I would like to learn. Festival season is coming up and I want to learn more about the dancing so I can join in.

I know, I can join the line at the end and figure it out, but I have a tough time learning how to dance that way, I need to take a step back and get some instruction.

Etiquette and what wear to a Greek wedding?

I am scheduled to go to a Greek wedding in a few months and I am trying to figure out the etiquette of what to wear. It is a Greek-Canadian wedding, fairly traditional in a Greek church with a reception after. Both the bride and groom are Greek-Canadian.

I need advice for wardrobe for men and women, as well as kids. The wedding is in the afternoon, the reception at night. The wedding is in early June. There are no instructions on the invitation on how to dress.
