Making the Perfect Gyro

I’m looking to make the perfect gyro at home and could really use some tips from those who’ve mastered this classic Greek dish. I’ve tried a few recipes, but I’m struggling to get that authentic taste and texture you get from a good gyro shop.

What’s the secret to making the meat just right? I’m especially interested in the best type of meat to use, marinades, and cooking techniques. Should I go for lamb, chicken, or a mix? Also, any advice on how to achieve that crispy, flavorful exterior would be great.

Greek Pasta Dishes?

I’ve recently been exploring Greek cuisine and have fallen in love with its rich flavors and variety. I’m particularly interested in learning more about Greek pasta dishes. So far, I’ve tried pastitsio, and it was amazing—like a Greek take on lasagna with those layers of pasta, meat sauce, and béchamel. Sourdough Bread in Greece?

How common is sourdough bread in Greece? Someone told me they have it, but I don't remember.

know that Greece has a rich bread-making tradition, but I’m wondering if sourdough specifically has a presence in bakeries or local markets. Is it something I’d easily find in most places, or is it more of a specialty item? Also, are there any unique Greek variations of sourdough that I should look out for? I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with this or who knows the Greek baking scene well.

Greek Breakfasts Most Common Today

I am a Greek American and my breakfasts have gotten Americanized. I asked my older Greek family members who came from Greece what they ate for breakfast in Greece (30+ years ago) and the answer I got was Greek coffee, cigarettes, and maybe a pastry and/or some feta and olives.

I asked someone who lived in Greece more recently and she said fruit and yogurt.

Granted, I only asked a few people ... so I understand this wasn't a good example. What do people do now?
