Mykonos Okay to Visit in March?

A friend recently asked me whether Mykonos is a good place to visit in March, and I realized I don’t have a great answer, even though I’ve been there before. My experience with Mykonos has only been in the height of summer, when everything is open, busy, and very much in full swing.

I’m curious how the island feels in early spring. I assume it’s much quieter, but does that make it enjoyable or does it feel too closed down? Are restaurants, cafés, and shops still operating, even at a reduced level? Is it more of a peaceful, local experience, or does it feel like a place waiting for the season to start?

My friend isn’t necessarily looking for nightlife, but does want good food, nice walks, and a sense of atmosphere. I’d love to hear from anyone who has visited Mykonos in March—or lives there year-round—about what to realistically expect that time of year.

Mykonos in March can be quieter than peak season, but that is part of its charm if you prefer fewer crowds and lower prices. Weather may be cool and windy, and some beach clubs might still be closed, but local tavernas and historic sites remain enjoyable. Planning activities with flexibility will help you make the most of an off season visit.

I’ve talked to a few people who’ve visited Mykonos in March, and the consensus is that it’s a very different experience from summer, but not necessarily a bad one, depending on expectations.

March is quiet, sometimes very quiet. Many beach clubs and nightlife-focused spots are closed, and some shops won’t reopen until April or May. That said, it doesn’t feel abandoned. There are still local tavernas, cafés, bakeries, and a handful of restaurants open, especially in Mykonos Town, and they tend to feel more relaxed and authentic.

What people seem to love about March is the different feel - the island is just as beautiful in March as it is in busier times of year - but it feels a bit more local to them in March.
