Hi everyone

I have just joined this site to see if I can get some Corfu travel tips or maybe even meet some other people heading to Corfu next summer.
I am 53, from Derby, England, and I've decided to have a month's RnR in Paleokastritsa.
I'd be really keen to hear from anyone with any tips or insight into the area, life in Corfu, how I might be able to meet people and things to see and do. I'm thinking of hiring a moped to get around, do lots of reading, relaxing, hiking, eating and (a bit of) drinking! Most of all, reflecting and enjoying the environment - and the sunshine! I need to take some time to indulge in this.

What is Paleokastritsa like? From all of my research, it seems to be a good mix of quiet and lively (ie. not party town but also not completely dead). Are there restuarants there which aren't too expensive? Are there any good, chill out bars which stay open late? Also, are there ways to meet other travellers out there or is there anyone on here heading to Corfu next summer who'd be interested in connecting beforehand? It'd be really cool to build a little online community, if there was anyone in a similar position, even if they're going to a different part of the island.

Anyway, that's why I joined this site - to meet any others but also to find out about Corfu and paleokasistra. I'd love to hear from any of you!

First Impression of Corfu?

I was talking with a friend recently who’s been to Corfu many times, and it sparked an interesting question. It’s been over 30 years since his first visit, and he realized he can’t quite remember what his initial impression of the island was anymore. Not what he thinks of Corfu now, but how it landed the very first time.

That made me curious about other people’s experiences. Do you remember how Corfu felt to you on your first visit? Was it the landscape, the Old Town, the food, the pace of life, or something less tangible? Did it meet your expectations, or surprise you in some way?

When a place becomes familiar over time, those first reactions tend to blur or get overwritten by later memories. I’d love to hear from anyone who can still recall that first moment of arrival — what stood out, what confused you, or what made you want to come back.

Best areas to stay in Corfu for first-time visitors?

I’m looking for some advice on where a first-time visitor to Corfu might enjoy staying, because I’m oddly stuck on what to recommend.

I’ve been to Corfu many times and know the island pretty well, but that’s almost the problem—I’m so familiar with it that I’m not sure what makes the most sense for someone seeing it for the first time. A friend of mine is planning their first trip, and they’ve asked me where they should base themselves.

Would you steer a first-timer toward Old Town for the history and atmosphere, or is it better to stay near a beach area like Paleokastritsa, Glyfada, or Agios Gordios? How important is having a car for these areas, and are there spots that balance scenery, walkability, and easy day trips?

I’d love to hear what you’d recommend to someone who wants a classic Corfu experience without feeling overwhelmed or isolated.

Corfu beaches locals actually go to?

I’m starting to think seriously about a trip to Corfu, and I’d love some local insight before I get too deep into planning.

When I travel, I’m much more drawn to places that feel lived-in rather than curated for visitors. I’m not really looking for beach clubs, rows of umbrellas, or spots chosen mainly because they photograph well. What I love most are beaches where locals actually spend time, like places you might stop at after work, go with family on a Sunday, or return to year after year without much fuss.

Are there beaches in Corfu that still feel like that? Maybe quieter coves, less obvious stretches of sand, or spots that don’t show up on every “top ten” list? I’m happy to trade amenities for atmosphere. I’d really appreciate hearing which beaches locals gravitate toward.

Corfu Itinerary for 3 Days?

It’s been quite a few years since I last visited Corfu, and I’m thinking of spending a few days there the next time I’m in Greece. I remember loving the island’s mix of Venetian charm, lush green hills, and crystal-blue beaches, but it’s been so long that I feel like I need a refresher!

If you had 3 full days in Corfu, how would you plan your itinerary? I’d love a balance of history, nature, and relaxation, maybe one day exploring Corfu Town and its fortresses, another out in the villages or countryside, and a day by the sea. I’m especially interested in beautiful coastal drives, local food spots, and any hidden gems that don’t feel overly touristy. What do you think?

Do you need a car in Corfu?

I'm thinking about visiting Corfu next spring, and I'm trying to decide whether it's worth renting a car or if it's easy enough to get around without one. I usually don't mind using public transportation, but I also don't want to miss out on some of the island's beautiful beaches, villages, and viewpoints if they're difficult to reach.

My plan is to spend a few days exploring Corfu Town, but I'd also like to visit places like Paleokastritsa and maybe a few smaller villages if time allows. Are the buses reliable in the spring, or does having a car make the trip much more enjoyable?

For those of you who have been to Corfu, what did you do? Would you rent a car again, or did you find other transportation options worked just fine? I'd love to hear your experiences before I start planning.
