Religious Orthodox Sites to See in Corfu?

I might be going to Corfu soon and recently heard that there are some really meaningful Greek Orthodox sites on the island—but of course, I didn’t write them down and now I can’t remember what they were.

I’m definitely interested in seeing more than just beaches and would love to experience some of the religious or spiritual side of Corfu while I’m there. I’ve heard there are historic churches, monasteries, and possibly sites connected to important saints or traditions, but I’m not sure where to start.

Are there specific Orthodox churches or monasteries that are considered must-see? I’m especially curious about places with history, beautiful architecture, or a strong local connection. Thank you!

One of the biggest sites for Orthodoxy is probably the Church of Saint Spyridon in Corfu Town. Saint Spyridon is the patron saint of the island, and his relics are kept there. Even people who aren’t especially religious often describe the atmosphere as powerful and moving. The church itself is beautiful, with Venetian influences that reflect Corfu’s history.

I’d also recommend visiting the Monastery of Paleokastritsa. Besides the incredible views, it has a peaceful feeling and a long history connected to Orthodox monastic life on the island. The small museum there is interesting too.

Another place worth seeing is the Vlacherna Monastery near Kanoni, one of the most photographed spots in Corfu. It’s small, simple, and very tied to the island’s identity.

Corfu really blends spirituality, history, and beauty together in a unique way.
